Owners manual

So I open it up to see how well the threads look and if they and the o-rings are lubed, then I saw that it came with a battery installed backwards. After a quick look at the owners manual, I found out that the battery is supposed to be installed that way.

It even had a paper insulator installed to prevent discharge or shorts.

Since the battery is new, it needs to be charged.

After about 2 hours, the battery is fully charged.

The threads appear to be glued so I won’t be able to show any pictures of the innards. If the ThorFire BD04 is anything like its Convoy and Dipper cousins, its driver will be a 4x AMC 7135 with LVP (blinks at low voltage).

Here is a size comparison of the ThorFire BD04 next to the ZeusRay.

They appear to be around the same height.

The ThorFire BD04 appears to have a larger lens than the ZeusRay.

The ThorFire BD04 weights more than the ZeusRay and doesn’t heat up as fast as the ZeusRAy, but does get as toasty after a few minutes.

The ThorFire BD04 is more ringy than the ZeusRay but that could be solved by blacking out the white interior.

For allegedly having a 4x AMC 7135 driver, the ThorFire BD04 holds its own next to the ZeusRay.

ThorFire BD04 on the left and ZeusRay on the right.

Conclusion:

I’ve come to the conclusion that the ThorFire BD04 is a very nice zoomy and it took me by surprise with it’s quality. I feel that it performs great stock and there would be no need to stack more AMC 7135 chips in it.

The BD04 started life as a Dipper brand model, then also adopted by Simon for his Convoy brand, making it afaik the only zoomie Convoy in their lineup. (You do mention they are cousins in your review).

I would be interested to find out if this ThorFire is just a re-badged Dipper, or if there are any updates and/or changes at all.

If they are truly identical, how do the various brands compare for price, availability and quality of included accessories such as the 18650 cell…

Hirshy

Looks like a nice light! Good review.

kinda expensive but quality looks good

Does the zoom mechanism slide or twist?

This is now on a ridiculous sale
