Looks like a gimmick to me.
Why incorporate it n the flashlight?
You need to take your light off the subject to read it.
With ambient air, distance and wind factors, I donât see how it could be very accurate.
Locks out flashlight if youâre over the limit.
Donât drink and flash.
I think they first did this decades ago. (Patented in 1992)
âFlashlight has a nose for drunken driversâ CNN June 16, 1999
âI put it up to the window,â says Lou Gregoire, who is with the Gwinnett County (Georgia) DUI Task Force. âThen I push this top button when I ask him say whatâs your address and this little yellow light comes on and tells me that the pumpâs working⌠and it sucks air into the flashlight.
âKelsey says of the device, which was patented in 1992. The Sniffer was developed by researchers under the direction of various insurance and highway safety organizations, including the National Highway Traffic Administration.
The flashlight will display red lights if the alcohol level in the air is above .12
The device sells for about $600, and hundreds have been bought by law enforcement agencies, schools and correctional institutions in the United States and in countries ranging from South Africa to South Korea, Kelsey says. Some correctional officers use the device to test convicts returning at the end of the day of work release or to sniff out illegal âhoochâ contraptions in prison laundry rooms and cells.â

Iâve followed these gadgets somewhat distantly since the beginning, and their accuracy is known to be wildly variable though false positives at high levels are uncommon. Their results are generally not admissible as sole evidence of drunkenness, but they can be used to indicate a need for closer scrutiny and that is the role they are generally used in. What a lot of people donât know is that certain diseases, body conditions, and the digesting of some common foodstuffs can cause there to be some alcohol in the lungs which will show up in breath tests. This is why some jurisdictions now require a blood test to verify since it is far more accurate.
I no longer drink alcohol so I donât care about testing, but I also could never perform some of the field tests in common use well even sober such as standing on one leg nystagmus test. With a failing back and knee thatâs even harder for me to attempt now with even worse results than when I was younger. Iâm happy to have things like this flashlight in use since it lessens the chance that I will be called on to do those things which Iâm naturally not good at that would make me look bad, and if it helps get drunks off the road without violating their rights (which it accomplishes) then Iâm in favor of it. I just hope the light keeps pace with technology, which with a lot of Police equipment doesnât happen. If youâre going to have a flashlight, it might as well be a good one!

Maybe.
Thank you. Good digging up.
LOL! Youâre Welcome.
Iâm not sure thatâs a flashlight.
It is. First cop used baton, second cop used flashlight as pictured.
