Fenix PD30 XHP50

Fenix PD30 XHP50

A customer has dropped off a few lights for me to modify/upgrade (TK61/SR52/TN36) etc. This was one of them, the driver was fried so he wanted a total upgrade, my first thought was XHP50

Well all I can say is wow, this thing is immense, x2 16340 IMR batteries in this thing and itā€™s blinding, gets hot very quick though.

First bit was getting the head apart, it was glued very tightly (thanks Fenix) second was getting the driver out which was again glued very tightly, it had to be pushed out from the other side due to it being press fit.

I used the original driver Board and stripped off the components (single mode DD)
Because of the glue and press fit there is a ground wire running up through the head soldered onto a screw in the pill which means I had to sand down a 16mm noctigon to have room for the screw and wire.

Took a while (especially with the glue) but got there

Nice!

Any ā€œdonut holeā€ issues?

Slightly but only noticible on white wall 3-5 metres away, close up or outside you canā€™t tell

Beautiful! Beamshots? Or you prefer the owner to be surprised?

Sweet mod there.

Thatā€™s the bizness rite there!

3Tronics, may I ask how did you manage to open the head?

I have this Fenix PD30 in front of me, itā€™s quite old and it screams for Led upgrade :>

  • any suggestions for new led, more floody, assuming Iā€™d keep the reflector?

Itā€™s hard, I heated it in some water and used 2 strap wrenches, ended up snapping one, they are glued very tightly

If you do get the head open you can put any led in you want, but if you use a DTP 16mm board you will have to file/grind it down on one edge to fit round a grounding screw
