NCR18650B 3400mah Panasonic Protected in Convoy Flash lights

I might have made a mistake and bought some NCR18650b Panasonic 3400mah Protected batteries without checking if it will fit inside Convoy flashlights which i intend to buy.
I wanted to buy the new Convoy s2+ flashlight (particularly the red ones) but im worried that these batteries will not fit, will it?
If not, will the older Convoy s2 flashlights take these batteries? are the s2 flashlights much worse than the newer s2+?
Im also wondering if the c8 will take these batteries, I was interested in the s2+ and c8 because everyone talks very highly of them…
Im new to battereis/flashlights and just assumed a 18650 flashlight takes 18650 batteries….thought they are supposed to be 18mm diameter and 65mm length….this one is almost 70! should i just buy unprotected next time? i was told to stick with protected for now…
I have tried researching for hours and could not get the answers i wanted.
Its too late to cancel the order.
I hope it will at least fit in my Fenix e35…….

They fit.

Lengthwise they should fit. Both lights have springs at both ends of the battery, allowing for a wide range of battery lengths. The S2+ is overall shorter, but has a shorter reflector and the battery compartment ends up about 2 mm longer than the S2.

Depending on who did the protection circuit add-on to the 18650B, it might be a tight fit diameter-wise.

Personally I prefer the S2 for the deeper reflector and more stable tail stand. But I have to admit, it is hard to resist that new blue S2+.

Ah i see, thats great! ill go ahead and order the s2+ then! I think the diameter is 18.5 and length is 69 on the Panasonic NCR18650B protected cells…
I thought i remember some one saying that it might not fit but dont think there was a 100% answer on that
Are the differences between the s2 and s2+ big does it just technically preform better?

I have Panasonic NCR18650B’s, protected, in my S2+ and they are a super tight fit. Luckily, the flashlight breaks down into 3 parts, instead of the usual two. You’ll have to take off the tailcap, and the main body to push the battery out one side of the tube because the diameter isn’t wide enough to allow the battery to just fall out.

I found out the hard way that the best thing to do is to rotate the battery as you put it in, to find the best way for it to slide in. If you force it, it becomes even harder to get out.

IMHO the only advantages of the S2+ are:

- longer pill that can transfer heat faster to the body, but there is not much meat to the body, so not sure it makes a big difference.

- ‘square’ threads on the tail-cap and head, more durable than conventional threads.

  • a few mm more compact

The working parts (drivers, LEDs, LED boards and switch) are identical between the S2 and S2+ (and all of the S-series in fact).

The NCR18650Bs are already slightly thicker than most 18650s. Then the extra wrapping is added when they add the protection circuit.
I have protected NCR18650PFs that seem to fit in everything.
For a single cell flashlight it is pretty safe to use unprotected cells, providing you always treat the cells with respect.

I’ve actually had a light that wouldn’t take NCR18650B until I peeled of the sticker. Either EVVA or Keeppower can’t remember but it did make a difference.

Ah, i thought the s2 used XML LEDs while the s2+ used XML2 LEDS but that only seems to be the case if buying from Fasttech

They are so cheap i might just buy both of them, if one of them has problems ill just buy some new batteries, which also are cheap…

I can confirm that NCR18650B protected fit new C8 but not without applying the force. It is very very uncomfortably tight fit…

The one S2 I bought from Fasttech came with XML2. It was the most popular model, U2-1B with 8x7135 IIRC.
It may depend on how old the stock of the particular model is.

Buy from Simon directly. More options and you know exactly what you are getting.
