Do you expect chips on a light?

I bought a branded Chinese light, and there were ~3 chips on the tail cap. So I ordered a replacement cap, as this was a light to look after, and that had more chips on it. It looks to ne systematic in the construction as some were in the same place on both. I’ve never had a torch with chips before. Am I wrong to expect zero chips?

What brand, model? Pics?

Sounds like the dealer is selling “seconds”.

I would expect no chips.

This post made me hungry.

Maybe the packaging is bad? That may cause damage during transit

Not unless the seller indicated they were refurbished lights or ‘seconds’ that didn’t pass QC well enough for full retail price. “Budget” is good but one of the pitfalls of shopping by price is that things like this are more likely to occur than when you pay full price at a reputable dealer.

Contact the seller, send them pics if you can, and tell them you want either a perfect light sent immediately or a full refund- settle for nothing less. Do this while you are still in the time-frame where paypal or your bank will still act on it or you lose your leverage.

I expect 8 chips, each one allowing 350mA to pass through it.

I was thinking nacho cheese flavored.

Sounds like it has some lame anodizing to go with some lame packaging. Of course it could be seconds as others mentioned.

I am off to get some Lays now.

Thanks all. The light was described as new, and the replacement tail cap came direct from the manufacturer, which was Sunwayman. Both items were well wrapped. I will try and take some photos. Previous Sunwayman lights (M40A MCE, M40A XML, V10A) were immaculate. Your comments have persuaded me to voice my concerns to SWM customer services (who sent the replacement, which was paid for).

You meant chips, like bits of metal, or like chips as in integrated circuits? Or you meant nicks or dings?

America and England, two countries divided by a common language.

I meant damage to the anodising such that you can see the bare metal. On the replacement, there is an area on the edge, near a pin, where it looks as if a metal object has been dragged along the edge, removing ~2mm of anodising. There is a nick on the rear where the anodising has gone, and there are one or two other marks. On the original one there is a nick on the rear, and on the edge, next to each pin, there are small areas with little bits of damage. The damage on the edge is similar in both cases suggesting a feature of the production method, rather than random damage.

Don’t get me going on differences in English/American. Burglarise, now there is a word that winds me up like a Duracell bunny.

Or try the word, “pissed”. “I’m pissed!” means two totally different things here and there. And when I heard of aluminium, I thought they discovered a new element!

Yup. But we have started saying “pissed” to mean angry, whereas normally “pissed off” means angry and “pissed” means drunk. Gradually we adopt your ways, due to massive infiltration of our society by your brainwashing minions. Sorry, I mean thanks to your high quality TV, internet forums, and films … cough cough. For example, we say “Easier than stealing candy from a baby” even though we don’t use the word “candy”. We even adopted your Halloween customs, and teach our children how to extort money from strangers.

I do not expect damaged anodising.

What did you pay for the light? Cost of replacement tailcap?

The light was a bargain, £56, new, and the tailcap was £7 so not a huge deal, but the replacement SHOULD have been A1. I will contact SWM and express my concerns.

First of all when you got the torch I would have complained to the retailer and asked for a replacement. I certainly would not pay 7 quid for another tail cap.

Also Sunwayman are supposed to be a premium light so I would not expect damage of any kind.

If I was you I would contact the retailer and explain demanding a refund for the tailcap and an undamaged one sending out to you.

Did you buy it in the UK?

I would love to receive some (free) chips from China but it would probably turn into dust from all tumbling and bumping with other packets

Why have you posted a picture of some potato crisps? (We are back to language differences.)

I bought it from the US, and I am in the UK, so I thought why not just order a replacement while my M40a was being serviced by SWM. It was not much money, so I couldn’t be bothered with hassle.
