I’m just starting out here, however I’ve been a flashaholic for a while now. I don’t add many flashlights to my collection as I am extremely picky when it comes to the perfect light, however I’m looking to replenish my collection…
I’ve recently lost a Olight O’pen (which has been discontinued), so I’m looking for a replacement that can better it as it was close to but not quite the perfect penlight.
Essential
1xAAA or 2xAAA (leaning towards a 2xAAA)
Takes NiMH (optionally 10440)
PWM at least >1.5kHz or current controlled
Programmable mode/modes preferred but will take Moonlight>Low>High or similar (shining into people’s eyes with it, the O’pen’s 5 lumens was too bright)
Nichia 219B or ability to be taken apart and be modded with it (Will take a neutral or warm white if that is not possible)
Washable (at least sealed at each joint with some sort of o-ring)
Clicky
Must have/be able to take a clip
Desirable
Metal clicky switch (rather than rubber)
Looks like a pen when clipped to a shirt, subtle rather than tacticool
There is only one light so far which fulfills everything listed above: the LF2XT
Anyone care to suggest any others? My one regret is not buying the LF2XT back when they were being made
I am more than willing to mod a light if that is what it takes…
I have the DQG slim AAA. Will accommodate 2 AAA with extension. Can use li ion too… it’s NW available. I have the eagletac d25aaa and I lover them both
Thanks for the tips! Vinh’s mods comes oh-so-close but it comes with a guppydrv-based (it seems?) firmware rather than lucidrv and no option for the 219B. Modding again it is!
Sorry saypat, unfortunately I didn’t order spares when I ordered (some) of the parts. Also this is turning out to be an expensive (50USD or 75AUD) build due to shipping costs to Australia, which more than double the prices on things like Efest 10440s.
My build so far:
Lumintop Tool
Efest 10440 x2
Nichia 219B on Noctigon (wish they made smaller Noctigons, going to be lots of filing)
My perfect driver would be a DD+7135 on a 10mm PCB + Lucidrv/FT but I think it’s only supported by BLF-V6 firmware which isn’t programmable.
It seems my options are: 7135 based driver with 2 stacked 7135s, giving maybe ~200 lumens FET based driver for crazy lumens but not sure if moonlight mode would be too bright (anyone have any idea what moonlight would be like?)
Holy smokes- I WANT ONE The ultimate in a tiny pocket rocket, but yeah, the price. That’s a big ouch for such a tiny keychain monster. It’s a Vinh though, and that means a lot.
Considering the custom nature of the light, it’s dear but reasonable given the parts, the driver and just being a Vinh light. I’d be down for one if I wasn’t addicted to modding everything to perfection to justify my purchases
The K18 is one of the smallest AAA flashlight with a side switch. Though the K18 is small, but it offers a powerful 360 lumens output with 3 brightness levels by using a 10440 li-ion battery. It also offers a 110 lumens output by using a single AAA battery. The side button switch allows you to select between three brightness and strobe by easy one-handed operation. It comes with detachable two-way clip, the flashlight can be put into your purse, pocket, or simply be fastened onto your cap.
