Review: Spyderco Yojimbo 2 pocket knife with jokes (S30V, G10, etc.)

Sup BLF. This is not a new knife, but it is a new review. A Reddit user loaned me a knife just because he’s a chill guy, to do a review on. This knife is out of my current price range, but it was great to mess around with it for a few weeks. Very very carefully though. I EDC a Spyderco and a few Ganzos, but nothing this expensive. I loved the knife and one day might treat myself to it. Hope you like my joke filled, short film style review…

As all the others…… GREAT REVIEW!!

Great review, mhanlen!
Btw, what’s your favorite spyderco blade?

again ,where if you don’t mind me n asking did you find t his for 30.00$ and any paratrooper2s?

I don’t usually watch YouTube reviews, and I went into this video expecting a few lames jokes, but I was wrong.

That was a great review, I will be checking out more.

I got excited hearing that $30 number too, but then watched again and heard him say “$30…less than the crib costs”…

Hehehe great review as always!

I had my hopes up dang it

Great review. Great knife. The Paramilitary 2 is my all time favorite, and this has the same compression lock. Great!

Not much of a knife perspon myself, only tagged along for the jokes  .Still found it a very interesting, well put together review.

cheap clones? also I found a Chinese spyderco shop that has the paramilitary 2 guaranteed to be authentic for 39.99,I really don’t want to derail mhanlen s excellent review so I will leave it at that

Glad you like them, Thanks!

To be honest, I have experience with 2. My EDC endura 4 and this one. I like the Endura because it’s cheap (comparatively) and has a long handle, and it sharpens well with my Sharpmaker. So probably that one. Now as far as deployment? This one. I’d really like to have one of these for my own- the only real drawback I can think of is that I wish it had a handle size a bit more like my Endura.

Looks like you answered your question below. Man I wish! Someone loaned it to me, but as far as I can tell it’s about $160 everywhere. Which is a bit too rich for me right now.

All of my reviews in the past year or two are done the same way. Even if you don’t like the light/lamp/knife I try to make it interesting. Plus, if it’s my knife and I’ll abuse it a lot more. And believe it or not, some of those jokes go through 2-3 revisions before finish the review. I threw out the initial script I wrote for this because I didn’t like it. But that’s boring process stuff… Thanks man!

I’ve always been interested in that one. My first encounter with a compression lock and I love it! It makes it easy to deploy and close this knife.

I wouldn’t consider myself an obsessed collector either. But there’s always one in my pocket- more so than a light or Leatherman even.

As much as I’d like to own this knife. My wife would probably frown upon this, with a kid on the way. I don’t know maybe I should test this hypothesis.

Derail away man. If you want to talk about gingerbread cookies and rock formations in Arizona, it doesn’t bother me. A paramilitary for $40, what a great deal. An authentic “variant” using the S30V inspired 440C, right?

What do you use the knife for every day besides opening boxes?

Cutting? I cut tape off cords, cut tie line and apples. The shape of the cutting edge provides no issues with these tasks. From personal experience, I encounter more people who use just a box knife on a job than a pocket knife- and considering the shape of this is the same it’s a very useful knife. If you’re dressing game a lot or need a curved blade for de-boning or chopping vegetables quickly then it’s probably not the blade for you. I find that if I pay attention to the way I use a knife most often- I use the flattest longest part of the blade more than I do the curved section. Also peeling vegetables. Most vegetable peelers I’ve used have long straight edges. Again if you find a utility knife is a useful tool, then this knife is essentially the same thing. Except bigger and more expensive.

This was an EDC loaner knife, so I basically agreed to return it in the same shape as I received it. So I didn’t use the blade as much as I do in other reviews. If it was my personal knife I would have abused it more. The blade shape is perfect for an EDC for me. There’s nothing I use my EDC blades for that I couldn’t do with the Yojimbo.

Yeah, uh, there are no authentic Paramilitary 2 knives for $40.

The yojimbo 2 is a great knife and mine says hello.

Awesome! What kind of scales are those? Are they custom or from a special production version?

They were custom but I forget who made them. I picked up the knife and the scales used off a forum. This is the only spyderco I own but the wharncliffe blade is a very useful blade design.

Nice! Its a super useful natural design- I agree. Anyway love the scales though, thanks for sharing.
