Ultrafire UF-H2 (Headlight/flashlight)

Hello Folks,

After eyeing this light (AA/14500 version) for the last few weeks, I finally ordered it (also ordered the H1, the CR123 version). Here is the light at HKequipment http://www.hkequipment.net/index.php?p=6&s=261775d05d73166a3256808608be5b80&lang=en&id=444

and here are some user impressions from the CPF forums http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=256605

Here's a review of the H3 version (runs on a 18650) from the Jayki site http://www.jayki.com/?mid=flashlight_forum_board&category=1061&document_srl=6291

I picked the light up from Ebay for $28 delivered (total price includes $2 bing discount) and I'm really excited about the possibilities of this light. The things I really like about this light is the 90 degree/forward facing beam, small size (80mm in length), solid looking deep carry pocket clip, floody beam profile, UI with infinite adjusting beam, and the magnetic tailcap.

The price is somewhat out of the "budget" range but it is half the cost of the Zebralight designs that the light borrows from. I was about to buy a zebralight headlamp (and may regret not doing so) but I decided to go with 2 ultrafire variaitions instead. What these have that the zlights don't is the attached deep carry pocket clip (as I plan to EDC these lights in the front pocket) and the magnetic tailcap.

Anyone with any experience with these yet? I will include my thoughts when the lights arrive.

The only reason I didn't get one of these is that I already have a Zebralight (H50) and see no need for any other. The Zebralight really is that good. If the Ultrafire even comes close it will be an extremely useful light. I probably use the Zebralight more than all the others.

Thanks Don. I've been staring at the Zebralight H31 for weeks now as I thought this would be a versatile that would fit all my needs (i.e., compact, bright, floody beam but with a reflector, great UI...) but I never got around to getting one so I hope I like these UF lights because if not, I may just end up costing myself more in the end if I feel they are not good enough.

I am really starting to like the looks of this flashlight. It's now available at Manafont for a relatively good price.

$32 is a bit out of my price range, but still one of the best prices around. It looks really, really useful for my needs. From the CPF review, sounds like it has excellent runtime, and it has infinite brightness variation, an infinitely useful pocket clip with the 90° angle light, and a floody beam, which I love. Hmmm... If they could just get that price down a little bit more, I think we'd have a real Zebralight competitor.

Is it ok if I move this to the headlights section, to flesh it out a bit more?

Moving it makes sense to me.

I just wish the Ultrafire didn't have SOS. I really can't think of any circumstances that would make a flashing headlamp useful. The only person or thing it is going to disorientate is me.

Since Zebralight no longer seem to sell an 18650 headlamp, the UF-H3 is the only game in town for that. It ought to run for a good long time.

I wonder how the SOS mode is accessed?

from off > 1 clic to turn on in the memorized level

from off > 1 clic and keep pressed for 5 seconds, the light starts to cycle progressive from max to min, when you release the button, the light level will be memorized

from off > 3 clics to go to SOS

It is a nice UI, there is a good review in spanish with lots of pics of the 18650 version in forolinternas

Thanks ezeqdb! That's a very nice UI. SOS is not easy to get to unless you want it. Sounds really good...

Oh! It ramps!

I thought it was only a single level and this put me off buying one as I thought it was far too expensive and inflexible. Now I want one!

I now know what one of my next purchases will be.

I'm not sure whether to thank you or not!

My wallet tells me that it hates you for helping to keep it empty. :)

 I know the feeling! I sort of looked at the product page in despair, realizing that it very well could be in my purchasing future...

I neither know what to do, because the 18650 version is a great option too, about 2cm shorter and lighter than the tr-801. The magnet on its tail is strong enough to keep it horizontal in a vertical surface like a fridge.

And the AA version is just a bit bigger than the Maratac/ITP EOS A3:

(your wallet will kill me)

The only "problem" is that the led may not have a good heatsink, check the first pic of this post. Anyway, the led is driven at 700mA (always talking about the 18650 version)

Well there is one in my future now. Hope HK Post gets a bit faster. Just got a small order from KD in about 8 days but I have at least three orders from October sitting around in an HK Post warehouse.

Same problem here, im waiting things from kaidomain, dx, manafont, ebay and a Quark AA from 4sevens :P some of them requested in september and sent in last days of october.. and I don't know if there will be people in my house in some days of january..

I have the same problem, I live alone - and I've had no success at all in training my assistant to sign for stuff. She prefers to grab the mail from the postman's hand - and if he loses some fingers, that's fine by her. I can't leave the inner door open as the postman who is a nice guy is very attached to his fingers. I think my assistant weighs more than he does...

But if she could open doors, she's always be taking herself out for walks and she's spent most of her life in the country so she doesn't understand traffic.

Hi everyone, my Ultrafire UF-H2 just arrived (for review) from Manafont. After an hour of testing it's looking REALLY impressive. Here are my initial observations

  • Tiny tiny tiny!
  • Silky smooth threads
  • Tailstands perfectly
  • Horizontal refrigerator-stands too, thanks to a nice strong magnet
  • Great clip
  • Silent digital "soft" switch on top feels really expensive, but produces parasitic battery drain
  • Truly "step-less" infinite brightness control by holding switch, ramping a little bit too fast but manageable
  • Lowest brightness setting is incredibly low
  • Perfectly remembers last brightness setting
  • Maximum brightness? Decent, but can't tell yet until it's dark. Doesn't leave me stunned.
  • Pure flood beam is very usable hands-free clipped onto clothes, so no manual aiming/focusing is required

I will do a complete review as soon as my low brightness battery test finishes. Looking like that will be a LONG time in coming.

24+ hours and still going....

Just set the H3 to about as low as it goes and stuck it by its magnet to a steel shelf bracket behind the desk. That way I'll see it every time I enter or leave the room. The cell in it has had about an hour of full-power running so there is something like 1700mAh left in the cell at 17:30 on Friday 17th December.

Ok this thread has convinced me to order this light. my question is to get the AA version or the 18650 version. I think i'll go with the 18650 for run time purposes.

Thanks everyone for making me spend more hard earned money (that should be going towards others gifts for Christmas lol)

If you already own and use 18650 batteries that would probably be a good choice, since even the 18650 version of it is so small. But if you want a really tiny little thing, I'm thrilled with my 1xAA version. And the runtime is still excellent. >36 hours now and going strong on low.

60+ hours so far and still going!
