Olight S10R II review (500lm,XP-L CW,RCR123A)

Greetings,

Well, Olight keeps on renewing their models, and this time it’s turn of the successful S10R.

So, what has changed?

1. A newer XP-L LED is being used this time
2. A slightly different desighn, different anodizing and button color
3. 500 lumen, vs 400 that the older model had

Summary: it’s an evolution, not revolution

What can the specifications tell us?

The 400 lumen is the older model. Not much has changed…

Shall we start or what?

Like other compact Olight flashlights, the new one comes in a little plastic box.

The flashlight comes bundled with a lanyard, USB cable, user manual and a charger.

The charging base looks and works the same as the charger that came with the previous Olight R series flashlights. When charging the LED on the charger becomes red, when the battery is charged (or the flashlight is removed from the charger) the light becomes green.

As started with the S1 the lanyard comes equipped with a little clip, that will help to to attach the lanyard to the flashlight.

Here it is. Not much changes compared to the older model. Again, the flashlight is very compact.

I like the new design better

The flashlight tail-stands without any problem, and the magnet in the tail still holds it steady. There is no problem using the flashlight with protected RCR123A, the battery compartment in not too tight.

Here is the bundled battery. Nothing special, just a protected RCR123A with 650 mAh capacity.

I could not see the “checkers” pattern on the XP-L, like I saw on the XM-L2

Compared to the most compact of them all, the S1.

The user interface is still very easy to use

Here is how the flashlight looks in my rather small hand

Still some green tint

Let’s see it in real life

It did not become a thrower, and it should not. A floody light, as it was before.

Some numbers

Not much changed compared to the old model, as expected

Conclusion, final thoughts

A great light. If you liked the older model(s) you should also like the current one.

I’d like to thank Olight for providing the flashlight for the review

Questions? Requests? I would be happy to assist.

Thanks for the review
I guess they’ll upgrade all their S models this way. That would explain S15/R and S30/R going on clearance lately.
BTW you have left some Russian text in the charger base description.

Thank you, fixed the Russian text. I think the S models will be upgraded in several ways. I mean that there will be “II” versions with increased output, and also Javelot versions with increased throw (de-domed LED’s). That’s what I personally think.
