Help me identify this LED on a cheap bike light set

Hi guys,

So someone asked me to buy a cheap bike light, and I had to buy it locally. Well this high quality piece of shit was advertised as a cree lamp. I thought (pff silly me) that in the worst case it will be a Q3. Is it possible that this cheap looking led is really a cree? Comparing to a R2 the light output is the half or less, the beamshot is very ugly too.

Anyway... it runs on 3 AAA, the plastic red part in the headlamp you see actually has the threads, the mount is useless out of the box becouse it is really loose. The female screw is missing for the rear light mount, and you have a very hard time when you want to put the 2 AAA in.

At least it was cheap, about 17$ posted, and thats not bad for a local price.

That's one of the "Generic" emitters. I had a cheap flashlight that had one of those; I dropped in a spare XR-E I had and noted a marked improvement in performance. Can you remove the white plastic disc to get a better look at the base?

I can't remove the plastic at all, I think it is glued. Maybe I buy an XR-E too and I will replace it.

Generic means it is not cree right? Or cree produce generic LEDs too? Im a bit confused here.

I don't think it's a Cree LED.

Are there three strips on the LED like the one below? It could be a Cree XP-E. If there are only two yellow strips on it, it is a XP-C.

No strips! Only yellow. You might think that you cant see it on the pictures becouse of the lack of quality, but what you see what it is in real life. A small yellow square, nothing more.

That is absolutely no Cree LED.

Thanks for the comments! Tomorrow I ll contact the seller.. I have never had to give negative feedback on any auction site, except 1 time, and that guy is facing the court now.

I ll keep you update, in case you are interested how things going in Hungary.

that looks pretty lame ..2wires is bad ..I have an odd emitter with 4 wires nice tint not terribly bright but a beautiful beam .i think i'd be mad about that one .

Maybe you are interested how it performs, so I shot some beamshots. Coz we love beamshots

Also its a good practice for me, 1st time I do such things.

I compared to a cheap well-known headlamp with R2, they are both zoomies, and using the same 3AAA eneloops.

The headlamp is always the first.

It might performs better than I thought, but still...

Yes we love beamshots! Thanks rad

How does the flashlight with the "generic" led performs on runtimes vs a R2.

Yeah that can be interesting. I dont know yet, but maybe I will test that tomorrow.

I passed it away so didnt have the opportunity to further tests. And the end of the story: the seller offered money back but I needed a present so couldnt do that, and he still thinks that he is selling the right stuff even after i proved its not, even after I showed this thread. He was pretty jerk, so it went ugly. This is not ebay man..
