Thorfire PF03 Penlight Review

I received the ThorFire PF03 penlight in return for review.

There is a potted driver in it, that I don’t think I mentioned in the video. It has an AR coated lens in it.
Also the threads were lightly lubed and very smooth.

The little switch button is pretty stiff , but not unmanageable for most.
I am not thrilled with Hi mode following the moonlight, (moon/HI/med) but it could be something to do with the tiny driver not having space to set the modes different I guess.

Other than the modes, the PF03 seems to be a good little light overall.
The rest is in the video.

EDIT: There is a definite difference in the driver of the PF04 and PF03 as I have both.

When I swapped out the heads there is very little difference (if any) with the PF03 (using the PF04 head) between high and medium. With the original head on the PF03 there is a significant difference between high and medium.

With the PF03 head on the PF04 however, the PF04 still seems to function the same with either head.

I know this doesn’t answer the question about it handling the 10440 cells but I just thought I would note the difference with head swap.

Heres a link to the light and video below. Amazon.com

Can she handle 10440?
Thanks
Keith

AAA only with this one

I’m supposed to get one to test out. I plan on trying it on AAA, LiFePO4, and Li-ion. It’s sister product, TS07 reportedly handles 10440s, so I think the PF03 will stand up to the higher voltage, too. We’ll see. H)

It is possible that I may, as it look to be the same driver that is in the PF 04 and that one uses 2 AAA.

I think mine has been taken over by the wife for her purse already though , so I don’t want to do anything to chance ruining the one I received (and possibly ruining my day along with it)

Hahaha, I got mine in today, and before I could take pictures for a review, it had been claimed…. By my wife as well.

It is a really nice little light… I should have my review up tomorrow for it. Nice video by the way, I will not be able to cover more than you, but just my impressions.

Funny how the wives always give us heck for having so many lights, but when we get one they like it seems it is no longer ours but becomes theirs. This isn’t the first light I have gotten that she liked either. haha

Who makes a quality 10440 LiFePO4 ?

I use Soshine 280mAh LiFePO4 10440’s.

I’m pleased with their performance to date… given the trade off of lower charge density for the safer chemistry. I run them in my keychain L0D flashlight. I find I need to recharge them about once a month, about twice as often as when running Eneloops.

+1 on the Soshine LiFePo4’s you can get them at Fasttech too….

I was running some trustfire 10440’s in my Streamlight microstream and it would get too hot to handle, switched to the 3.2V LiFePo4’s and runs cooler with not much less output for as long as the TF 10440’s.

Edit in OP

Do you need a special charger for these LiFePo4 or will any 10440 charger work ?

Thanks,
Mike

You do need a LiFePo4 charger. The Xtar SP1, Nitecore D4 are the two I have that handle LiFePo4, though the D4 is the only one that charges LOW enough for small 10440 sizes (150ma).
