Need Mod Work Any takers.

Hello, I would like to have My Novatac Special Ops modded with Toykeeper driver.

I Have Novatac and BLF A6. I believe the switch would need changed on Novatac.

I can provide both lights, Or I see the Toykeeper driver is for sale.

This light will be a daily user. Mod must hold up to normal abuse.

Anyone interested in trying this let me know.

Chad

Have you disassembled the Novatac to see driver size, etc?

Have not done anything. I can do some research this weekend. I have a shoe box of lights opened up to see how they work.

None of them work anymore.

Now you just need a few more shoe boxes for parts you haven’t used.

No one is interested

Maybe have to give this a try this winter.

There are many of us that can help here, if you get stuck… Just post pics and ask questions.

Thanks Mattlward. I get laid off when snow flies. I am not very good a soldering. Or taking lights apart in a way they can be put back together. lol

Get a good cheap temp controlled soldering iron. I have not bought one yet, but this seems very popular…

Just ordered one. Found switch mod thread, but pics were gone. Tried several times to unscrew ring on switch & head. Must have lock tite.

Snapring or needle nose pliers that will fit in the holes on the ring are the key to tear down both ends. I have seen both left and right hand threads, so try both directions.

These are my plier of choice for taking lights apart... They are used in wire wrap for jewelry making!

Give me a minute and I’ll post my A6 tail cap and taking it apart. I haven’t heard of or seen any with glue or loctite used.

Novatac tail cap. Have tried it a few times. With some cheap snap-ring pliers

Will work on taking novatac apart first. Then maybe the switch mod.

If you don’t have needle nose pliers a pair of scissors will also work. You might have to twist fairly hard but unless it was cross threaded it should come loose. Then it all pools out.

Can you post any pics? Steaming it might loosen any adhesive without damaging rubber or plastic parts.

Will try some pics tomorrow. Need to get to sleep. I am sure my snap ring pliers will work on A6.

I have junk novatac switch I will work on first.

Need to get my toolbox stocked, order leds, wait for layoff….

Thank you

What are some basic tools I might need?

Hammer?

Good flush cut wire nippers (does not mean expensive), a flux pen, good solder in a small diameter (I like 63/37 alloy, I like Kester) and a basic decent multimeter and a set of high quality leads. A set of good small screwdrivers and a couple of small strap wrenches would also be good.

Will work on picking these up. Any of this at big box stores?

My local TrueValue may have some stuff. Will go shopping after work.

Requirements for multimeter??
Prices all over the place.

Eye protection. Those little nippers, notoriously, eventually break and fling the pointy part. Eyeballs attract stuff like that.
Eye protection. Fumes from non-lead solder are even worse than fumes from leaded solder, except for the absence of lead oxide dust.
Exhuast fan leading everything outside, airflow from over your shoulders carrying fumes away from you.

Eyewash — bucket if nothing better
Handwashing provision.
