My I-phone-4S battery seems to be on the blink. Have had it in service for @2 1/2 years. I have noticed that when it gets to about 60% battery charge remaining it goes down REALLY FAST ..sometimes to as low as 2% in four or five minutes.
Can this battery be replaced by me? Or does it have to be done by service tech. I normally would have traded it in by now, but my kids use my upgrades.
Heck, at least with the previous flip phones I had I could change battery easily myself.
Its not too hard and there are youtube videos showing how. Getting decent battery can be difficult as most of replacements are china quality. Would think getting it done by apple or similar would cost more than its worth. Used 5c or 5s are very reasonable and might be better solution to tide you over
Unfortunately, in my experience fixing iphones, you basically have to break the glass digitize to get to the battery. So your looking at replacing the glass as well in the process. Doing it yourself is risky because you can break the lcd screen if you get in a hurry and thats the expensive part. I’ve never understood why any phones have sealed in batteries.
Alternatively, if you want to do a quick fix, get yourself a battery case so you will rely on the new battery the case contains instead of the old iphone battery.
Before you replace the battery, try letting it run until it cuts off. My wife’s phone seemed to be “uncalibrated” with the battery. As it was dying, it would stay at ~8% for almost a day. After killing it completely and charging it completely, it seems to have “recalibrated”. YMMV
Does anybody know where to get a decent replacement
battery for the iphone4/4s that doesn’t cost too much ?
Plus , don’t you need some type of special tools to open
the iphone4 in order to remove and replace the battery ?
You only need 1 type of tool ?
Not much. It fell this morn from 60% to 2% in a matter of minutes. If I can get the battery and screwdriver it should be good again. No matter what Apple sez..
It’s very doable. I’ve replaced screens, batteries, switches, cameras, etc on multiple iPhone models, 4 included. Those kits are all about the same, and they work just fine.
If I can offer any advice, it would be this: don’t rush it once you’ve got those first screw out of the bottom. Apple uses double sided tape in some models (can’t remember if the 4/S is one of them) which means that if you pry too quickly, you might detach the screen/digitizer from the glass front or itself. Also, some of the small quick connect ribbons inside are short and/or stiff. Do your best not to bend them too far to the point that they crimp. Really, it’s just about being conscientious about what you’re moving and how far/how fast. Other than that, it’s really straightforward once you’re inside.
Plenty of youtube tutorials to guide you along the way…
I replaced the battery on my iPhone 4 after 4yrs of use. It’s a fairly simple process and your 4s should be identical but here is a replacement guide specifically for the 4s:
The only concern is buying those cheap batteries that die or lose capacity after a couple of months. It’s better to spend a few more dollars to get a quality battery.
I personally wouldn’t trust the cheap eBay or Amazon offers.
I bought mine from ifixit and I think it was $25.
Well this morn started off at 100%. Called in residential power failure was on hold for 20 minutes. Surfed the forum for 5 minutes...looked at charge and it was at 60%. Surfed some more about 10 minutes and then it hit 2%. Sumpins not right.
Yeh, I looked at the reviews on one vendors batteries and there was nuttin but comlaints of buyers sayin batteries were no good and lasted only hour or 1 or 2 days.
Then found vendor with excellent feedback that sells supposedly new generic batteries in sealed packs. Sounds like the place to maybe try out. He sells a sealed battery with tools for less than $10
4s? I thought I read just 4. Well, anyway it appears accessing the battery is exactly the same on the 4s. iPhone 4S Teardown - iFixit
Would you have a hobby charger or any other li-ion charge that has a discharge capacity test? If so, you may be able to check the actually capacity of the replacement battery before installing it. Connector pinout
Just checked your link, that looks good.
Seller mentions battery is new from factory and not refurbished or used.
I saw a youtube vid where some one got a battery that had 100’s of cycles on it already.
If your phone is jailbroken, there is an app that can check cycle count, capacity among other things but I don’t know what the name of the app is.
Well the fact that it comes sealed from factory makes this a great buy for the price.
