trouble quoting a post

I tried to quote a post and the quote was mis-formatted. After some trial and error I found that the end quote clause “[ / quote]” needs to start on a new line if it follows a URL.

This works.

This does not.

Can the default behavior be changed to always put a newline before the end quote clause?

I have problems when quoting and I have always just dealt with it as have you.
The good side of it is I have learned how it works and THAT knowledge has come in handy. So the quirks I have come across has been a learning experience and I have benefited from that.

When using the advanced post editor (input format), i never had a problem. Do you use the simple, or the advanced editor?

The less quotes the better, IMHO.
Folks here tend to quote entire comments—and it gets quite redundant and tedious to read.

I agree. But sometimes understanding is made easier by quoting. An example of quoting, and keeping it short could be something like:

And yet some times the whole string is important to follow the context.

If one is truly interested, one will read the whole thread and understand the context a post is made in. A few multi-quotes isn’t bad but I’ve seen that erupt to page after page with one or two posts per page, which makes reading and understanding too tedious to bother with.

Just quote the last relevant post alone and refer to the rest in your text. Please leave the spam on the store shelf next to the corned beef hash where it belongs!
