I don’t understand all the hype about ‘li-fi’ as a replacement for wi-fi. To use a light based transmission system for data every room would need to have an emitter connected to the network in a position that insures an unobstructed path for communication to the transmitter/receiver connected to the desktop or notebook computer. Wi-fi offers mobility. If you’re tied to a cable it would be cheaper and less hassle to just use a hub and run cat6 cable.
Is that what he is talking about in the post? I had a hard time following the OP. I remember reading about the technology on yahoo news. Why would someone make a light for that purpose? Wouldn’t it be better to use something out of the visible spectrum? Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s amazing that a light bulb could transmit data like that. IS it a LIFI Router or just a WIFI Router with an led?

That does sound interesting. I’m guessing that the data sent over the electrical wire would be limited to a single circuit? I wonder how this product would fare in a commercial setting with all the extra circuits and “noise” from all the equipment. Getting a wifi signal to different parts of the building can be problematic due the construction of the building and the fact that so much equipment is in use. There is so much intereference that cell phones do not work and we can’t pick up any radio stations. Multiple wifi radios mounted all over the store for wireless equipment are too much of a pita and they always seem to fail.
