This is for all Chinese sellers that sell online. You need people that speak English as their first language to proof read and fix your websites and item descriptions. Some of the language does not translate well at all and it is RIDICULOUS! You and your products are not taken seriously by the average customer, it LOOKS LIKE A JOKE! Has no one from china heard of MTURK, or Amazon Mechanical Turk? You can assign tasks to private contractors that are contracted by Amazon and they will proof read and fix any mistakes for a VERY LOW fee. Although it is funny and gives me a good laugh to see some of these websites, you NEED to look into this so that you may have a selling platform that appears more professional and legitimate. This will be good for business.
No, I don’t really want to proof read their websites. Maybe if they offered flashlights in exchange? nah, I don’t really have time for anything like that. I like the fact that these companies are there to give competition to the big stores, but they need to up their game.
I’m just tired of going to a vendor website and seeing such silly item descriptions. How could I ever in good consience recommend them to anyone when I myself am wary of purchasing from a company that can’t even make proper use of the english language. The appearance of their website isn’t much different from fake scam websites. I wouldn’t dare do business with them if it weren’t for the recommendations of the Budget Light Forum Community.
Here’s a couple of examples, I think I cropped out the website name. I have seen much worse from this vendor, but these are two pages that came up first.

I don’t get it, are they talking about rc cars and flashlights or did they pull the descriptions off the trojan condom website?

Seriously speaking, there is no way for the Chinese to proof as much as many think. Moreover, translation mistakes occur in every country and language and even in the US.
You could always learn Chinese, after all they outnumber Americans by over 3 to 1
or buy from your local shops and pay a lot more for the service, you know the service that automatically puts you on hold and tells you every couple of minutes that your call is important to them |( but they use perfect American/English while they do it.

The international selling retail Chinese businesses need to learn to use basic English, the world is not going to learn Chinese to buy their retail goods online, the most international language is English.
The number of “English as a second language” speakers is vastly greater than the number of English as the “native” language speakers.

The cost to do something like this would be very minimal. I’m sure these sellers are churning out thousand’s of products, but even if you only sold 100 and it cost a quarter dollar to have the description proof read and edited, the cost per unit would be .0025. You could add a penny to each item price and make more than what was spent.
Natives always speak a different ‘language’ than those using the same language elsewhere. And never is any publicly-used language true to the ‘textbook-perfect’ version being taught in any school. And always there will be grammar differences and nuances lost in translation. So what you often get is a teacher who never spoke the language as it is commonly used (or as it is used only in one place) from textbooks which didn’t translate well to start with. Culture plays a role as well; some peoples believe that they were taught correctly when they were not because their culture is to not question those older or presumed to be more educated- they think they are right no matter who offers them a different opinion. And the value given to proper language use varies from place to place too.
So here we have people who believe that they are doing well enough now that do not see any value in trying to do things differently so they are not going to try to improve until they see that it’s worth the effort. They also have an inherent cultural distaste and distrust of those who would interfere with their way of doing things. It is only when their language teachers have learned the language being taught from places where common usage prevails by being there themselves that this will change. Even then their English will vary- did they learn in the “down south U.S.A.” or in London?
As far as I am concerned, all I seek is an understanding of each other and that can usually happen if both sides try to speak or write simply and clearly avoiding slang or local language variations. If someone else’s use of your language bothers you, then learn their language as you expect them to learn yours- the other side of the coin you’re displaying. Don’t be arrogant about it but instead aim for cooperative understanding and you’ll find things get a lot easier for you

I understand that, but a commercial website that mistakenly uses product descriptions that border on pornographic could use a helping hand. It’s not my intention to be arrogent. I am genuinely attempting to help them. I believe they would be more successful if there was a better presentation of their business. I love the fact that these people are there to provide an affordable alternative to the major retailers and I love the fact that they are willing to work with this community in the form of group buys and custom products.
Actually, if you look at the history, “Southern English” is significantly derived from the “upper-class Twit of the Year” English spoken in the posh drawing rooms of Jolly Olde England…
An example is the word ” ain’t “. Yes, it’s used to beat ”us dumb hicks” over the head, but that’s out of ignorance. (It actually predates America itself! Ain’t that a kick in the head?)
Another important point I learned in Latin class, “Northern English”’ is defective and incomplete, in that there is no unique word representing the Second-Person (Subjective and Objective) personal pronoun. Virtually all other languages don’t share this defect (French: “tu/vous”; Spanish: “usted/ustedes”, German: “du/ihr”, e.g.). “Southern English” fixes that defect with “Y’ALL”, whereas poor dumb-ass yankees have to cobble together whatever comes to mind, like “you-uns” or “yous guys”…
“You-uns” can blissfully flame me all you want. I ain’t skeered! Knowledge is power, y’all.
