Lately, I have noticed a handful of maniacal members editing and re-editing posts…over…and over…and over…and over. Posts that are several hours/days/weeks old. The same post, edited over…and over…and over…and over…and over. Get the picture? :Sp
I understand making a quick edit on a recent post when you notice a mistake (unwanted auto-correct, etc.)…but, editing posts that are several pages back? This is driving me CRAZY on the Group Buy posts :exmark:
Why is it makin’ me loopy? Well…in one scenario*, I try to go to the new posts section on the X6/X5 GB thread, and encounter an old, re-edited post praising their grandma’s skills on a macramé owl banner she gave them in 1972. Then the fun begins. I then have to figure out where the next new post is. Last page? Second to last page? Where on the page is it? Beginning/middle/end? I’m getting older and can’t always remember what the last un-edited post was that I read the last time. :weary:
The Group Buy threads are a monster…I know. It is tremendously difficult dealing with interest, questions, comments, rude remarks, unfounded assumptions, Godzilla movie clips (OK…that was me ) So…please…please…please, I beggin’ ya, PLEASE refrain from this horrid practice! You, too, can help extend the sanity of an aging man for at least a few days
*Note: Scenario for demonstration purposes only. Nothing about crocheted owl banners was actually posted. For some twisted reason, I despise macramé and remember my mom’s macramé owl (Blech!) on the kitchen wall. This matched my disdain with multiple-edited posts and, therefore, seemed appropriate. (Note: No non-crocheted owls were hurt in bringing you this message).
I do go back and try to change bad autocowrecks when I don’t catch them the first time… But I consider it at my own risk for being lost or dripped from a group buy if I rewrite the whole thing….
My sensors detect a crocheted force field, bearing the hallmarks of a dark design. I sense that this is a possible disturbance in the force…deflecting the initial intent of this post. Damn the macramé…full speed ahead!
or you write a limerick and someone quotes it and then you see a better way to write this one line and make it better so you go back and re-write it but it's too damn late because the thread has moved on but you have to re-write it anyway because you want your work to be all it can be even though it probably wasn't worth reading in the first place
On another website, in a sales thread . Original Poster was selling something, rules were first I’ll take it gets it.
First poster asked a question. I was second poster, I posted , I’ll take it!!!
First poster edited his post to I’ll take it. I lost out.
I have seen this a time or 2 since then. I don’t deal with those people.
I have also seen poster edit there post in a argument. To make them look right, when they were originally wrong.
If you know who has habit of editing there entire post. Quote them.
To fix this in Large threads…
After so many posts, make a new thread called “blah blah blah part 2”
First post should have a link to the original thread in BOLD as the first line.
Change title of original thread to add “part 1”.
Add link to “part 2” in first post in BOLD.
Move on
I believe someone had the idea that the 100th poster (or whatever number) would win a giveaway. However, the cheater deleted previous multiple posts, thereby reducing the true hundredth poster down, until the cheater’s number was 100…if I remeber correctly. Something like that.
