Thanks, gotta check into that. I’ve been using a very small carbide bit in my Proxxon that actually came from my Dentist! It’s prone to grab and bounce around as it’s 2 flutes.

Do you use the lowest or highest speed?

How do you go about laying it out on the light? Free hand it with a pencil first? Looks great!

I used the lowest speed. These are other engraved lights.

What a beautiful color that C8 came out! Awesome!
And every “Fatman” is exactly the same! How? Enquiring minds want to know!

Sorry to be so full of questions, but does that engraver vibrate the tip or spin it?

We used to have one of those, I put my Dad’s DL number on everything decades ago! Where oh where has our engraver gone?

The tip vibrates at 7200 rpm. I bought it in ALDI years ago.

The anodizing of Maxtoch is softer and easier to burn than Fenix one. The 2X logo is more like the lightpainted original.

That Convoy C8 came out gorgeous, made me want to do one, so this morning I stripped a new matte black Convoy C8 and cooked it. I saw it go a nice bronze maroon kind of color and stopped right there! It’s cooled down, I’m at the re-build it stage, but can’t decide what to do with it. Thinking about a green emitter, not sure. The green emitter I want does over 2000 lumens, has a 4.9Vf and costs over a hundred bucks!

No disrespect, but I find that 719Kcd difficult to believe. I’ve had mine (when I had one) at 500-600 and the spot is intense, even at just over 400 it threw across the Mississippi at Vicksburg. Probably deceptive though, as there is a lot of ambient light in that picture for sure. I know it’s very hard to reach those numbers, in ANY light.

Fenix TK75 2600lm:
- Fenix spects: 92.000Cd (606m.)
- My readings: 94.320Cd. at start and 92.520Cd.at 30 sec. (608m)

Olight M3XS UT Javelot:
- Olight spects: 250.000Cd (1,000m.).
- My Readings. 270,360 Cd at start and 252.000Cd. at 30 sec (1003M.)

As you can see, my readings are only very slightly above the ones offered by the manufacturer. If I’m making some imprecision, it must be very small. I have done several tests and the results are consistent. I can not think of another way to defend my results. Maybe I can upload a photo of long distance soon..
You are free to believe or not my results. I have no need or interest in lying in my statements.
If we dedicate ourselves to lie, this forum would lose its meaning and its raison d’etre.

Thank you for your comments.

Yesterday I had an appointment with Nico (member Nicolaas) to compare his new Extech luxmeter with my Mobilux luxmeter (that was interesting, the colour filters were quite different, with white leds the difference was not dramatic, but at 450nm his meter measures three times as much as mine).

We also spent some time modding his Courui from dedomed XM-L2 to dedomed XP-G2 S2 1D. Unfortunately the absence of a proper centering ring for XP-size made the focussing and centering so difficult that the throw went down instead of up.
In a brain wave Nico suggested to ditch the XP-G2 and put the XM-size 400nm 2.8A Epileds led in the light, that I did a quite succesful output test on a few days ago. It was risky because the Courui had a (6A) LD1 driver, while the led output is maximum at under 5A. With some not so high-drain batteries it should work, and it did.So now his Courui throws several Watt’s of purple radiation in a tight beam to a place far far away, quite impressive! Big Smile

Lfatman, I’m not saying you didn’t rock the TK61, all I’m saying is I know it’s really tough to get those high numbers on that light. I got rid of mine in frustration when it wouldn’t do it, even after getting a new reflector and building Richards Seis-Um driver. (sacrificing some 9 XM-L2 and XP-G2 emitters in the process) Granted, that was over 2 years ago and Cree has upped the ante on the emitters since then.

Based on that beautiful orange C8, I stripped a new matte black C8 this morning and baked it to a dark bronze color that I’m very pleased with, then built a PZL driver for a green XP-E2 emitter with a unique firmware to utilize the dual channel driver. Low does 100% on the single 7135 chip for .35A, High does 100% on the big channel for 1.85A (ran out of chips, used 4 380mA and 1 350mA) the third level is a Police Strobe. Reverse is enabled for access to strobe from moon and there is a batt check behind that loop strobe. All in all I’m pretty pleased with the light, thanks Lfatman for the baked C8 idea.

In the hand of an 8 yr old…

Thanks guys. Inspired by the Niteye eye10 Tic

The sunwayman doesn’t come apart to fit a tube on.
It’s fine graphite powder mixed with clear two part epoxy.
Mix it up, lather it on, leave to dry then sand it down.
The lines were cut in with a junior hacksaw.

Just finished up a simple Convoy C8 mod with an XP-L HI 1A and DoubleDown driver for my brother-in-law.

My Favorite Modded Lights: X6R, S8 , X2R , M6, SP03

Chopped the tail cap on a Convoy C8, removed the deep outer rim on the tail cap that surrounds the rubber clicky to allow easy clicky access with gloves. Came out pretty nice, no more lanyard attachment but much easier to operate. This C8 has Richards Buck driver and a de-domed XP-G2 S2 0D making 158Kcd on an Efest 35A with a little over 1000 lumens. Pretty neat EDC style with downrange punch.

Is the 0D still white after dedoming? Or is there some green or yellow? Thanks!

The 0D actually came out pretty nice, it’s warmer than it was but not obnoxiously so. I like a white tint, white like a high quality bonded typing paper, and while the de-domed 0D isn’t THAT white, it’s not yellow or green either. I hot de-domed it, on a star but free floating and connected directly to a bench test cell, a partially used Samsung UR18650FJ.

I tried baking an S2+ with almost no change at all… What temp and time are you guys using? Can it be done in a conventional oven?

500f or broil if you have it. Close to top. I’ve seen changes in 15-34 minutes.

Yep, chadvone nailed it. 500ºF for about 30 minutes. I bent a stiff wire and made a holder for the light, ran the wire up inside the battery tube such that the light was vertical, bezel up. Sat it on a cookie sheet.

Pro tip: Do it while any lady friends are away for the day. It makes a bit of a smell.
