Batch #1 consists of about 500 pcs, batch #2 about 2.500 pcs. That's why there is the limit of 3.000 pcs. I guess they can't produce more than 2.500 pcs at a time without having negative impact on their production planning for all the other models. Please keep in mind that Sofirn has a wide range of products and is also OEM manufacturer for third party brands. So, I'm sure they are willing to sell more than 3.000 pcs but it will take some time before they can launch a third batch in their factory.

As with the other groupbuys blf has done, the price that is agreed on with the manufacturer is relatively low. The manufacturer doesn’t make a lot (if any) money on the first sale’s. So they put a limit on the amount that will be sold with the low price.
After all they want to make money so after the groupbuy they will raise the price to a more realistic and fair price for the manufacturer.

After that, it seems it might be a slow process getting batch 2 made and shipped… but it sounds like batch 2 is an upgrade too. I’m looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Pretty stoked regardless.

I haven’t kept up with the thread, how will the second batch be an upgrade over the first?

These are pre-production-units (you can tell by the hex-bolt).
Looking at them, i noticed a few things things, which i hope are fixed on the final model:

- the thorfire-button
- chinese writing on top?

Can anyone please confirm?

Oh and a word on Colours:

- The orange-o-ring needs to match (or contrast or whatever) the colour of the lantern. Everything else looks very strange imho.

- Sofirn could offer a “bare” colour (without any finish). This might not only look badass on it’s own, it might offer a alternative for those with – lets say – “exceptional” taste: Custom-Painting it themselves.

[I must admit i have no idea if thats even possible from the technical side. And if yes, how difficult it would be. And if it’s to hard to diy, how much it costs to get it painted professionally]

I don’t know if this is the problem, but sales through certain outlets have been halted until bugs in the system get plugged. Back a page or 3 someone proudly (IMO) posted about how they were able to steal someones light by just using the stolen name from the list and paying for it. That “gent” is no longer here and all references to him have been wiped and flushed.

I think that Sofirn needs to be convinced how important colour is for their buyers, if they find an anodisation plant that can make a few really good colours (like Convoy did, and Emisar makes rather nice colours too) that will pay back the higher production costs in improved sales.

Personally I stick to black only because I dislike the weak candy colours that are the alternative.

I’ll second this and the other opinions, if the color options are those in Martin’s FB picture I have no interest, which is a bit disappointing as I held off on purchasing my first low number light in order to wait for the color options.

any option for non-toy-like anno would be a massive improvement.

Please add me for 1 more now colours are avaiable.

I can see the colour debate raging for eternity, think the project team just need to post a poll with options they feel they want to consider (and Sofin will actually produce). I personally can see logic in bright colour options alongside black, because your not going to accidentally leave it somewhere in the wild if its a bright colour. Given the earlier post where Martin has seen lamps in a range of colours… I would not be suprised if they have already made a decision?

Are we sure the second batch is not already committed to be black?

Group buys are always a great acheivement, but sounds like Sofin got baffled with too many voices and went early with their (manual) code process rather than let the automated system do the heaby lifting which is a shame, but I am sure everyone gets a light in the end so only the impatient really suffered.

No code PM yet but I am in the 1000’s somewhere for first one so not suprised, hopefully everyone gets a chance in the next month before it gets really dark for the winter Wink

It's not that easy to just post a poll. We have discussed many color options internally and also sent Sofirn some rendered pictures of the colors we (the LT1 team including those many collected ideas of all of you) think they will look great on the LT1. Now, it's up to Sofirn to check with their anodizing factory what's feasible and what's not. Once that happened we may start with the poll. It would not make any sense to already raise everyone's desire for colors we eventually might not get. It would only cause disappointment on this thread and that's the last thing we want. Wink

No, they have not made their decision yet (as far as I am informed) and they are really interested in getting us matte colors like dark green or desert tan/sand, too. This is why I tried to kindly ask everyone for a bit more patience until Sofirn is clear about the colors. We all hope that production of batch #2 will commence very soon.

Ive been unable to find definitive confirmation that colors will be offered. It seems possible and maybe even likely, that Sofirn may not even include color options for the GB, which obviously will come as a disappointment to many that are waiting thinking colors WILL be an option.

I like how the discussion is going regarding the colors. Good contact with factory and good feedback from BLF with great color suggestions. I hope this works out for the group buy since I added to my quantity to get more colors.

The deeper stronger colors are what I was hoping for. The blaze orange and the deep green and possibly the flat earth are what I want and will order most of my lanterns.

If the rich deep anodized colors are offered, I am all in. I am less interested in just flat coatings that look more like paint. (might buy one flat earth) but really would buy mostly anodized. If the current colors posted on orange and green samples are what is offered, I will buy black only. They seem washed out to me.

It’s probably irrelevant, but I would pay more for the richer anodized colors I like them that much.

^That^

I'd be perfectly happy with clear ano for that purpose.  Hard to miss shiny silver.

I’m not entirely sure. At minimum, it should have newer firmware, a newer manual, and some sort of additional scratch resistance, I think… but it sounds like there may be other details too. I don’t have all the info about it.

Sounds great. Thanks for the hard work and making upgrades as they come up.

Is the scratch resistance like hard anodizing vs powder coat etc.?

Same here, the shiny green I will pass on and go for black. For a good matte option (Desert tan/OD green/DigiCamo) I am happy to pay extra.

Just for jollies; here is a link to pages of ceracoat.

https://www.google.com/search?q=cerakote+color+chart&sa=X&biw=1536&bih=8...

All kinds of colors. Some or all can be done at home.

Some of the ceracoat information says a lifetime of a year. This material is commonly used for firearms. A year lifetime would not seem interesting to a firearm owner.

There is a chart in the upper right corner that implies longer life.
