I have been asked to coordinate a discussion to see which products at TOMTOP you all would be interested in buying if a group buy could be arranged. It would be an adjustable discount depending on how many units can be sold; meaning X% discount at 50 units, X% discount at 100 units, etc. Some popular items that I’ve seen on this forum that are eligible for a group buy are:
These guys also contacted me about doing something similar, then spun the merry-go-round of deception as they constantly changed what “the deal” was going to be. They stopped responding when I told them that any light they had me review or promote would get an honest review from my perspective (they obviously only wanted “good” reviews).
I’m not comfortable with doing a Group Buy just to get a deal.
I love Budget as much ( or more) as the next guy—but I think it should
only be done if you have a Specific “must have” light in mind to drive the deal.
The quest for the “Holy Grail light” is known to be arduous—don’t undertake it just because a vendor wants to make a sale.
Me too. I need to ask them about stock for that flashlight. It is sold out now, but I’ll check and see when it’s getting replenished.
I agree that when a “must have” light (which can be very subjective) is available, a group buy is a great way to get a deal on a light that would otherwise be out of budget for most people, but I also think group buys can also be helpful to drive prices down on normal items. I have no objection to getting an even better deal on an everyday light because for me, a good percentage of the group buys are on lights that I can’t afford anyways, even after a significant price reduction.
I still haven’t got a Hugsby XP1 and XP2 to do the usual head-swap, so I could go for a paired GB or even just the XP1, as they seem to be harder to get; the XP2 is almost always in stock.
I have been pretty active with recent GB’s but am slowing down as my needs get filled so the discount would need to be good and the light(s) interesting for me to consider another one, especially with a stock light.
I think most of us know to take those lumen numbers with a grain of salt…… or block of salt, I guess. For actual lumen ratings I usually check the reviews from the members here on this forum. I find it rare to find any popular online dealer producing honest lumen ratings. They’re usually just copied and pasted from the manufacturer’s (non-scientific) specs. I’d be happy even if it was 1/3 of that rating.
Either way, this thread is just to generate discussion about which lights would be good for a group buy.
