Need help moding a sunwayman ro1a

basically my light died after a week of use. I don’t know how to go about finding a replacement board or led. Please help I can measure and take pics if needed

Can you measure tailcap current? See if it draws anything at all. That could point to a loose connection or other trivial problem.
Edit: I should have looked up a picture before I said tailcap. The R01A doesn’t have a tailcap obviously.

On the other hand, is your warranty still valid?

I’ve already started taking it apart and would like to upgrade it if posible. I don’t know if it would be worth sending back being as it’s a $14 light

Do you have the driver board out? If we could see a picture it may help.

I have to say that if you don’t have much modding experience, starting on something this small will likely be less than enjoyable. There’s not a lot you can really do In that form factor.

!!

How about the other side of it?

I have disassembly some R01A, but if the driver is Kaput, I don’t know how repair it.

With the driver in the position of your picture, you have to unscrew the white ring that fixed the led an the driver head. That is possible introducing a tiny scissors or something similar into the head, because the white ring has two small holes, but you must be very carefull to avoid damage the litle pieces of the dirver, specially the bovine.

Ultimately, you can filing or polishing the driver and put in direct drive, using a 10440 Lithium-ion or LiFePo4.

Thats all i could really think of, just DD’ing an XP-L on a 10440. It’ll only run a few minutes at best though. Get hot real quick too.

The scabble process:

WOW Thanks Noctiluco

I just ordered a bunch of 3v 5mm straw hat leds and a large pack of resistors. Did you cut off the leds legs and solder them back on after the scrubbing?

I have a few Redline NEBO lights from back when I knew nothing about lights (not that I do know mind you). One is pretty solid and aluminum and the other is not so solid and feels like plastic. the shiny one I only kept because I paid like $25 for it. But both had issues after only about a month of very lite use. After reading another post about a mod for this light I jumped rite in.

A tangent here but -> that thing only lasted a week?

Was it at least from “hard” use? (or just regular/standard use?)

Thanks in advance!

Maybe a month or two each. The Grey one the tail clicker went sideways later I figured out how to bring it back to life again. The silver one is a replacement after the first one fizzled out. I was sure the Cree was burnt on the silver one up until today. All I ever did with them is go outside at night and one of them i had gifted to my mom. the part that holds the three AAA is also a weak link on these

I later bought a Fenix LD22 and man what a difference

I take it your fan of the redline NEBO lights

Applying the soldering point to PCB, where each of the legs of the led are is inserted, and having a little patience, you can separate the legs of the led and the PCB. If this can not be, you can cut the legs of the led and then you can, with patience, drill new holes in the PCB to insert the legs of a new led.
