On my triple heat sink/spacer, I cut the shelf for the o-ring just like the reflector has it, tapered and everything so it will press the o-ring against the sides even while sealing at the pill.

If making a more simple spacer to sit under the mcpcb, the threads could probably be utilized on the X6, maybe not on the X5, either way it wouldn’t really gain anything as the threads would be on a level with the emitters and the heat is coming out the bottom, into the original emitter shelf. This small light is going to have issue dispersing the heat of 4 emitters whether threads are used or not. So it’s not really essential to go to that length, that’s all I’m saying.

24mm optic falls through the bezel of the X5. No way around using the o-ring between lens and bezel. This is why I made the copper pill go all the way to the glass, so the o-ring could be at the top of the copper pill/spacer and the glass would press it to the sides, making the seal. It works. I’ve got 2 quads and a triple and I’ve built 2 other quads.

Seems we are hard to understand each other.
I have never thought about using quad optics in X5 without glass.
I can beleive you but standart sealing is much better. Reflector has step, this step with internal 90 degrees angle between glass and bezel side make the square closed so o-ring is surrounded by whole 4 sides, and when you twist bezel harder there is no way to go out for the o-ring.
Your variant have no lower surface for the o-ring and it can slides down.
DB Custom wrote:

If putting the o-ring on top of the glass instead of under it moves the optics and mcpcb down, that is an internal spacer measurement that doesn’t affect the spacers relationship with the threads positioning in the head of the light. The X5 is not made in the same way as the X6 is.

You haven`t understand what I am writing about at all.
When we have bezel-glass-o-ring-tir tir is pressed to the glass which is pressed to the bezel. We don`t look at o-ring thickness when calculating spacer height (because o-ring is around upper edge of tir).
When we have bezel-o-ring-glass-tir we have the same, but o-ring between bezel and glass, that meens that we have +1.8mm to optics part what meens that -1.8mm to the spacer height.

This way is much better. But this is triple Big Smile

I am thinking about spacer that would be cheap and user-friendly.
If BLF members agree that threads are excess, let it be so.
But I don`t think that spacer should have flat top without pcb size. It is much simplier to position pcb, regardless you using thermal grease or solder it to the spacer.
If nobody oppose this and milled grooves for wires, one more question opened about o-ring place.
Stock place+extra tube will have some extra cost, but simplier way to assembly.

Made this afternoon. Same ramping shelf for the o-ring that the original reflector has. This time I threaded it, so it screws in just like the reflector.

Nichia 219C emitters, 2960.1 lumens out the front with an Efest Purple IMR14500.

I see the #3 “Copper spacer for Carclo triple Convoy S2+/S3” is now in stock. I’ll order four if shipping to Sweden is reasonable. Prefer to deal with this here by PM or do you want me make an order on Ebay?

I’m no machinist, just got a lathe last September and have used it little over the winter. But even at that, and with no pre-measuring, I made this heat sink in just over an hour, much of that time spent taking a gazillion measurements. And I started out with a 1.5” bar to get the 26.3mm full outside diameter above the head.

Regardless, a hole has to be drilled in the emitter shelf of the light. The Dsche quad mcpcb has a center hole for wires. As does the Noctigon triple mcpcb.

Milled grooves on the side of a triple or quad spacer is a definite no go for me. The center hole serves a few purposes…

1. It keeps the wires from twisting with the spacer when the bezel is screwed on or off…as some people only use thermal grease and not adhesive or solder.
2. It keeps the wires from getting pinched or cut.
3. It allows the spacer to sit flush with the shelf/pill.
4. It keeps the wires in a direct line to the driver for easy repair/modding if needed.

Grooves from top can be milled for noctigon xp32 cause it doesn’t have central hole in stock.
For quad pcb grooves can be milled from bottom – central hole+grooves for them who wants to use stock wire holes in host.
1. Central hole DOES NOT keeps wires from twisting.
2. Yes, but you should use better wires
3. The same as mine idea
4. FALSE! Drivers have led wire pads on sides so when you use central hole you need extra underdriver height for wires.

Could you explain why there are 2 heights offered? Haven’t modified any x6, don’t know which size I need.

Edit: will one or both of this spacers fit the Eagle Eye X6?

Some members use tir optics without glass, this option is 10.6.
Both will fit, lower with glass higher without one.

Does everyone like this design?

Second part (“tube”) is necessary to save watertight with o-ring under glass.

Feeling myself deafblindness.
When I am asking BLF – what are you interested in, what shall we do next – nobody is replying.
But if I offer something – you can buy it immediatly.
Cause I can`t see lots of interest in X6 spacer, I haven`t bought 3m of proper aluminium (180 W·m−1·K−1 thermal conductivity), but have founded a little piece, so 15pcs 10.6mm and 5pcs 8.6mm will be available in mid of April.

What is about X5 quad copper spacer+ss liner? I can produce lots of them but I can`t imagine how much of them BLF can consume.

I received my two 2x “Copper spacer for Carclo triple Convoy S2+/S3/EagleEye X2” yesterday, best price including shipping I’ve ever seen. Now instead of making a couple of low amp triples I’ll be able to make something a bit more exciting. Thanks, kiriba-ru.

I think the problem with the X5 spacer demand is that most people don’t have a quad MCPCB but Cutter is soon to release one and will be available via MTNelectronics.

I have the copper X5 and several dsche quad mcpcb but no spacer to perform the mod. The ideal spacer would screw down just like the stock reflector does to allow the best possible heat path to the side walls and fins, just like what Dale made himself but I guess you would need a sample to perform test-fit.

I think everyone agrees that threads that we can produce are not so good to pay extra money for them.
My idea in making quad-upgrate kit from copper spacer and SS tube is the simpliest and cheapest way as I think.
All measurements and drawings are ready, material for 50+ sets are in stock but I don’t imagine how much should go to machinary. This is not are popular simple part like s2+ spacer that can be sold on ebay and can be used in lots of customizations.

Bad news:
S2+ threaded pills from my last production were not good, so I had decided do not make more of them.
I was waiting until nitro or Hoop will make lots of them for good price, so I could resent their products to EU buyers with lowest margin.
But I still don`t have such offers.
Good news:
Seems that I have founded out another way of threads making for Convoy S lights. Now they can be much better. This one is made from broken part so it looks inaccurate at top.

For the S2 or S2+? The pill shown in the picture looks like a S2+ pill to me (longer threaded section).
How is the driver mounted in the pill?

Don’t take much effort on thread length, this photo is made to show thread quality.
Any length can be made, but I think S2+ triple is the only popular version.
