Posting pictures

I use dropbox as I can take a photo with my mobile phone & it is automatically uploaded onto my laptop.
I used to use photobucket but when another forum I am active on upgraded its server platform it wouldn”t upload from photobucket but from dropbox was a doddle.
What is the best/easiest picture hosting site to use with BLF that can be sync”d with my mobile phone .
At the moment I am uploading pics from dropbox to tinypic & uploading from there to BLF.
This is time consuming & also I find that for some reason pics that look good clear & sharp on dropbox are blurry & undefined by the time they have gone from dropbox to tinypic to BLF ?

Many users use imgur.com. They have an app you can upload from your phone, though I don’t think it’s automatic

Hello bella-headlight, you might find this thread to be informative:

My personal recommendation for public picture hosting is just plain Google Drive. The links are ugly, but the storage is super reliable and integrates well with mobile and desktop devices.

About photo quality getting reduced, you could check to see if Tinypic is downsizing the images that come from Dropbox. From there, images displayed on BLF will look exactly the same as they do wherever they are hosted at, because in fact they get served up directly from their parent host and not by BLF.

SB taking the opportunity to thank you for the ease of photos here, the option to select 50% or something else very nice

Bella, I use tinypic
I open the pics in a new tab from my stuff with mouse wheel click
Then on each pic right click (then open new tab) to have a tab with just the pic.
I copy that URL and nowadays paste it select 50% and then paste it again so people can click and see the full size while seeing a smaller in the BLF posts. (Started with my beamshot topic doing this)

Tinypic is kind of crap compared to imgur IMHO. Much slower to load, and at least they used to ruin the quality of the uploads. There is a reason imgur is one of the most popular sites in the world and tinypic… isn’t.

Imgur. 15th place in the USA, 46th in the world. Tinypic, not so much.

Ah, interesting, so there’s what the OP mentioned about poor quality.

Why can”t I just upload directly from dropbox though like I do on my other forums ?
With dropbox there is no downloading pictures onto my laptop.
I just take pictures with my mobile phone & they are automatically downloaded straight into dropbox in my laptop.
A member did pm me a way to upload from dropbox onto BLF by altering the image url but I can get it to work as my image url do not contain the characters he explained needed to be changed ?
Does imgur sync my mobile phone & laptop ?

Well, to be honest, that could also be because of scaling issues, that can really give horrible results some times.

This is what happens when I try to put a pic on here from dropbox

I’m guessing that the other forums hosts the images for you? BLF wants you to put the images on another host, as that saves huge amounts of data transfer costs…

Unfortunately, imgur doesn’t not sync your phone and laptop, it’s just for hosting pictures online. But if you create an account and sign in from both your computer and your phone, you can very easily upload pictures from either device, creating albums if you want to, and it’s very simple to add the picture here afterwards.

If you look at that link, you see that the last part of the link is “?dl=0”

If you change that part when you have pasted it, to say “?raw=1” instead, it should work. Please use the quote button on this post and compare these two lines:

In a BLF post you can directly display an image from Dropbox, but it has to be a direct link.

How did you see the link ?
I can”t ?

Magic? :stuck_out_tongue:

Like I wrote, click the quote button on that post and compare the two image links.

Yes just saw that.

Congratulations, it worked!

My problem using a free hosting site is that long term, all your photo links break if you stop using that site, they go out of business or do something obnoxious, which seems to happen to all of them over time.

Google drive or Dropbox could go out of business tomorrow. Google already pulled the plug on Picassa, their own dedicated image hosting service. It’s random luck if your links are valid for any length of time.

I want my existing links to stay the same even if I use a different host, and the only way I know to do that is to own my own domain and use a $5 per month host behind the scenes. If I decide I don’t like my host and want to make a change, which has already happened more than once, then I can change hosts and all my existing photos stay the same no matter what! Because I own the domain.

Hmm you are right.
I have a website and are not getting close to bandwidth or space usage, might check that out yes.

Yes think I”ve got it now

Thanks very much for the help

Yes you do.
nice collection!
Are you planning a serie “will it mix?” I suggest 1 of those Ultrafire zoomies
