Argh, will add you to list.
Please can you make pics of switch assembly?

Of somebody sees the flicker indicating it might be a switch led issue please shoot a video of it, that is helpful too.

Did you forget to add me to the list? Smile

1726 preorders right now. That’s almost 99% of the interest list! Thumbs Up

I don’t know how many hours (if any) are left before the GB code expiration.

You can unscrew the driver and use a 3mm drill to open up the holes for the screws to be the same size as the screws so they don’t thread into the driver, but only in the flashlight body, that will make it sit more level.

The battery marks are normal, every light is tested before it goes out of the factory.

EDIT to put link with picture : http://budgetlightforum.com/comment/1191700#comment-1191700

(wouldn’t fear warranty issue, no one can see ;-))

Yes, and you might see a little bump in output when done
This is very sloppy assembled.

The code isn’t lasting long is it being extended? We had the BLF A6 code lasted for like 6 months.
I want to order mine when it’s ready to ship.

Go for it. At least your driver screws have good heads, not stripped. You seem to have the standard problem, screws threaded into too-tight holes in driver PCB, so driver doesn’t sit flat, so only small contact around the screws, nowhere else.

The Miller has said not. Order tonight if you want one at $40, with support from BLF. Future price for production units indeterminate, maybe codes available, maybe similar price, who knows ? Next batch should have niggling issues fixed, The Miller has said (new switch LED board, better screws, more attention to proper assembly).

Looking forward to mine.

I'm tapped out on my 10 pre-order limit. Any other option accept to buy from Elfeland? Can't find any other discount codes floating around, but if M4D M4X had one, it would probably be thru BG anyway where my limit was hit.

If you are really stuck I have one spare code. Just one.

The code won't matter - I can't even submit the order, or add it to the cart because of the limit.

Guess I could create another account, I suppose, under my wife's or daughter's name. I got a code to use (I know a guy...) smile

I will wait for future codes. I don’t like the preorder thing. That’s is 50 bucks I can have in my hand for a extra month or so.

Nope, sorry
We know soon (tomorrow?) when the production is resumed and again soon (tomorrow or day after?) when shipping starts or can start.
See earlier text:

Oh I got some PMs of people asking if they should get a Q8 before the codes are no longer valid.
I can’t say yes or no to that.
The new ones should be good but the first 500 should have been good as well.
In case of issues we will work on a solution for each one.

When we got the codes a quantity of ~1750 was anticipated and the original plan was to make 2000 total to forfill the first demands.

~1700 are pre ordered and 2500 are made for sure.
It is already clear $99 is not the real price, and $44-$50 is it.
So if you want it for $40 and have us(me) deal with issues order the Q8 with the codes provided.
If you want to be 100% certain no issue can pop up, don’t buy a Q8, and well no flashlight for that matter, stick to buying bricks you handpick yourself for that seems to me the sole product no issues can come up with Wink
If you want to read reports on how the soon to be shipped Q8 flashlights preform, wait for the reports and know there are Q8 to be sold after the groupbuy for a slightly higher price with the support of BLF already having a lot of tips how to better or fix it, and of course the customer support of the chosen webshops (Banggood or BGs AliExpress store Elfeland)

I can’t make a decisions for you, but with the long time it took to get here and the 20 days all have had to pre order and seeing that ~97% of initial spoken for number is reached I do not feel the need to even ask for the codes to be working longer. A profit for the professional parties involved for the rest of the Q8 flashlights will only help me to get better solutions Wink

BLF A6 was a very profitable project for the manufacturer, sure they kept it open for as long as possible Smile
Had it be much closer to production price surely they would have limited the number of actual lights sold for a groupbuy price. Like if we would have said $50, oh then the “special code” could run for months Smile

Sorry man, I can’t add much to this, we really did our best to get all things perfect, with 7 team samples and an outside review for an objective look. Team reviews that were honest and showed all.
We, no I simply hadn’t thought about the possibility that pre-production samples could be better then actual production because of the care in assembly.
We were so clear on specs of parts like FET and MCU, I see the rubbing rings on arriving Q8 lights proving all were tested. We have supplied a manual making sure that all can play with Narsil without the need for a computer of phone.
We tried to avoid pitfalls from the past BLF projects like lower quality parts used on drivers. Negotiated the testing of all before shipping, but still 11 switch assemblies have failed after some use. As soon as it became clear we started specifying the last bits and pieces and now all i’s should be dotted, but still we thought this was done before.

Huh. I would have taken for granted that would be the case.
It’s a classic situation.

That’s why the Consumer Reports company says they buy their test products from retail consumer sellers, rather than risk getting specially prepared samples from the manufacturer.

Here’s a description from a blog that focuses specifically on Chinese production: https://qualityinspection.org/pre-production-samples/

Quote:
It is very common for factories to make a really nice sample that they can’t duplicate reliably in industrial quantities.
Then they say “of course, this is bulk production, so it is not as nice as the P-P sample”.

How to avoid this situation?

First, once you have a perfect pre-production sample, write down your tolerances. Make the distinction between
what absolutely has to be as nice as the sample, and what can be a little off. A good template for this is an inspection checklist.

Second, ask for the manufacturer’s feedback on these points. If you can’t be there, hire a service company to send someone on site. It is important to discuss about this with factory technicians and managers, rather than salespeople or middlemen….

(my italics added — h)

I’d like to see a “Lessons learned” list develop for future reference.

FWIW, when I ordered my second, predicted shipping date was “Expect ship in:Sep.26,2017 – Oct.08,2017”

Fingers crossed.

I really wanted to order this and the D4 around the same time and not wait ages. So I don’t mind waiting I have more important things to pay first. (probably buy some tools for work)
Only 4 lights I am buying this year those 2 and the K70 and the astrolux thrower. I don’t have the spare cash Sad

I have bought heaps of parts this year I like moding and building. I am also building a light bar.

I’m certain many knew that a small number of prototype is not the same as production. But honestly, what could have been done about it? In an ideal world, a slow ramp of production would have been great (ie. a batch of 50, then 200-300, then all others). But there would have been even more “I want my Q8 now” grumbling and perhaps the manufacturer would not have wanted to go along with it (delaying revenue for sunk development cost, higher per unit cost for small batches). There’s always a cost to quality and it looks like this project hit a fairly good balance.

If the improvements promised come good, I will be very happy. I’d even have been content with the first batch problems, having participated in a few BLF special adventures, and had to fix them up myself. Really, I think that things are a bit out of proportion here, and thank you early adopters for flushing out the first batch minor issues. I hope you are taken care of once the hoo-ha has died down, and we are generally pleased with what still seems to me to be a very fine product, at an unbeatable BLF price.

$40, £30 is I think a bargain however you look at it. I’ve spent 2/3 that on SRK clones with counterfeit emitters, crappy drivers, little modding potential, rough metalwork etc.

I can’t see that price happening again, codes or otherwise, for some time, but what do I know ?

Chin-up The Miller.
