First time poster, long time lurker.. Ti3 or ti5, where would your money be spent?

Hi guys,
I’ve been lurking here for years but never joined as I have been trying to resist yet another obsession and subsequent collection of things. I wouldn’t describe myself as a flashaholic but I do like to have quality lights.
I have a c8 and of course, a sipik but after some experience with the two of these I find the c8 is brilliant for around the house/garage and camping etc. And the sipik is amazing with a 14500 for what it cost but it take up a little too much pocket real estate.

I am now looking into tiny, single AAA flashlights that would fit nicely in my new maxpedition micro with a spare battery. After a few days of research I have narrowed down to thrunite’s ti3 or ti5.
The ti3 I know to be tried and tested, tiny, powerful and reliable but the ti5 is a bit of a newcomer and from what I have read some people are having issues with faulty clickies.
I have been looking at the pros and cons and am still unsure.
Ti3:
-simple and reliable
-considerably smaller than ti5
-marginally brighter
-reversible clip
-loop for lanyard/key ring

Ti5:
-forward clicky
-momentary on
-easier to cycle modes
-sturdier clip

The main points that matter to me are the small size of the ti3, the clicky of the ti5 and reliability issues.

If it was your money, which would you buy?

Thanks, Ross

I personally like twisties when you’re going for compactness. The fact that people are already reporting reliability issues with the switch on the ti5 doesn’t help its case. It’s definitely easier to cycle through modes on a clicky switch, but in my AAA lights, I’ve never had a problem as long as there’s enough threading and it’s a good fitting o-ring. And since the ti3 is tried and true, like you said, I would say that’s my pick. The new emitter upgrade is also a plus.

Not to deter you from the ti3, but I’ve also had a tank007 e09 that’s been phenomenal through hell and back sitting on my keychain for almost two years. It’s $13 at FT. Just thought I’d throw it out as an option in case you hadn’t seen it.

Welcome to BLF!
Check out the BLF specials, Astrolux A01 is small and beautiful

Thanks for the info and thoughts OrionLight I appreciate it. I can’t find the tank007 in the UK but its definitely an option.
The Miller, thanks for the welcome! I can’t figure out where I find the AO1 on the site.

I think this is where I got mine a while ago: https://www.fasttech.com/product/1173305-tank007-e09-cree-xp-e-r3-120-lumen-3-mode-memory-e

Tank e09 on Fasttech, use coupon code BLF for 5% off

So is the general consensus that the tank007 may be the way to go? Less flashy features and a little cheaper? I was wondering if the firefly mode would be really useful or a little redundant. No clip but I think I could probably live with that.

In what order are the modes?

I think I need to do a bit more deciding, having checked out the astrolux on banggood and applying the code I could buy two and have change for the price of one ti3.
They have similar modes but the a01 is bigger and has no clip. I think I’ll order one until I decide on the ti3.
Thanks for the help guys!

When it comes to AAA lights I tend to shirt pocket carry the ti5, blf 348, or the thorfire pf03.

Honorable mention to the tank007 pa01.

I prefer clicky to twisty.

thanks for all your help! In the end I ordered a ti3 from amazon because I remembered I got a gift card at christmas and thought the slimness and pocket clip were a bonus…… I’ll probably end up ordering the a01 in orange too…
