I’m planning on turning it into something worthwhile. I’ve already decided on getting an efficient LD-29 driver.
Since it’s a zoomie, I thought it could get a nice throw improvement if equipped with a XP-L emitter.
I’m mainly considering these 2 options:
The latter one I’d reflow on a cheap copper sinkpad over a frying pan. Is this worth the $1 extra cost over the domed XP-L V3 5D?
With regards to the lens, the torch uses something like this: 30mm 5-90 degrees plano-convex lens @FT
… but in cheap & chipped plastic. Is this worth the extra money? I don’t know if it would go well, the head travel distance is about 21mm 16mm. :disappointed:
Well, as you can see the retaining threaded ring is slightly nicked.
That slight loss in distance to the lens means slightly less throw… and better flood.
Ironically, it’s their excellent flood ability while still being 0K throwers the real strong point of zoomies, don’t you think?
I’ll definitively go for an XHP50.
Something I was more or less aware of, yet I haven’t been able to do a direct comparison myself.
Anyway, for around a 3’7A (real) driving current (on 2S2P ≈6+V emitters), should I do XHP50 or XHP70?
Guess most of you would lean towards a better throw ability for an XHP50 vs an XHP70, doesn’t it?
