Help identifying please

Hello, I was wondering if anyone can help me identify this style led bulb. It’s 800 lumens. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I see you have an image and a link to another image from eBay. So, what is the product? What does eBay say that it is? Looks like a custom made light to me.

It is a flounder gigging light. I was just trying to find out what type of bulb it was using, where I could make one myself and save a lot of money. The light doesn’t have any patent on it.

Im trying to figure out the type of led bulb that it is using.

You could probably use trailer lights or some other truck/car/boat accessory light that is bright enough for your purpose and waterproof.

I don’t know, but seriously doesn’t look all that special. Any outdoor/waterproof/raintight light would probably work.

Edit: the bulb looks to have 12 LEDs inside. You can get a single Cree XM-L2 that puts out more than 800 lumens - actually over 1000 lumens. And there are even much brighter LEDs than that. That’s what tells me this is not so special of a bulb. It uses cheap LEDs.

I’ve made some in the past with those, but this type of bulb work unbelievably under water, and still doesn’t drain a 12v battery very quickly.

Cree LEDs are the most efficient (most lumens per watt) around. So, if you want to get a lot of light without draining your batteries too quickly, you want a light bulb that uses Cree LEDs inside.

If you’re handy, and don’t mind making your own, you can get over 1000 lumens from a Cree XHP-35 with ~12V and ~0.5A current. Put that inside something clear and waterproof, and you’ll make the other guys jealous. :crown:

You’re the man! Thank you for the advice!

Do you know if they sell the bulb for a decent price (15 dollars or under) that has the same output?

Looks like someone used some LED trailer marker lights to make those. Should be able to buy them anywhere trailer parts are sold. They are low power no name LED’s. You could use a one Cree LED and make the same amount of light and consume less power.

I just did a quick Google search and didn’t find a bulb that looked just like the one here. But, if you get a cheap trailer bulb and replace all the LEDs inside with Cree, you’d get a sizeable bump in output. The funny thing is, since Cree LEDs are so much more efficient, you could make a 250 - 350 lumen trailer light into a 750 lumen light without even using any more power from your battery! Here’s a plate with Cree XP-E2 LEDs already soldered on-board. Find a waterproof light to put it in, and you can have a lot of lumens in a hurry!

Thanks y’all!

Yea prawning lights are easy to make I think you call them shrimp in America heaps if aussie use them while looking for mud crabs at night. Heaps of youtube videos show you how to make them.
It just depends in specs… Do you want one to hook up to your car?
