I always put my own guts in there so the only thing I care about is the host quality. The winner there is XinTD.

I use Convoy hosts but I was quite surprised by Thorfire’s C8s. It’s got a beautiful beam with a dedomed XM-L2 U41A and a fet+1. The host itself is nicer than the Convoy host as well.

It’s a bit shorter than the Convoy C8 and the switch has thumb groove. The finish and knurling on the body is better in my opinion as well. It’s actually very nice stock but even better customized.

For $12 the Convoy C8 HOST is a crazy bargain if you’re going to customize. Don’t have to spend money on wasted parts. I don’t tend to buy ready built lights, but I did pick up a Thorfire C8S V1 for the coupon price. It’s great but the tailcap switch is super stiff and demands to be swapped. Not sure if they changed switches for the new version of C8S.

The Convoy C8 V2 and V3 does have the benefit of having (truncated / squared off) triangular threads, so if you’ve got a lathe and are going to make your own body or head or tailcap to mod it, it’s way easier to do so than with the lights that have square threads, requiring custom ground threading tools.

Started as a Thorfire and Cerakoted MagPul FDE by n10sivern. An XP-L HI and a fet driver is going in this.

It looks great!

My favorite C8 is the Convoy V3 except for the reflector, the thorfire C8s is a tad better in this regard.

I just spent 5 minutes and about 100 clicks of the V1 and new C8S. I honestly couldn’t tell a difference as far as stiffness. The C8S has a very slight shorter ‘throw’ till it clicks if that makes sense.

That light is gorgeous, with that being said, I’ve built several of those with XP-L HIs, a couple with dedomed XM-L2s, and dedomed XP-G2s…please don’t waste that gorgeous body on an XP-L HI, lol. If tint is an issue, I’d understand but a dedomed XP-G2 S42B (preferably) or a dedomed XM-L2 U41A will kick an XP-L HI in the nuts.

Just out of curiosity, why is an XP-L HI worse than a dedomed XP-G2 or XM-L2? From what I understand the XP-L HI was the go-to emitter for throw. I can understand the XP-G2 because of its smaller die, but why the XM-L2?

No, don’t get me wrong, it throws really well. The XP-L HI is a great emitter because you get “throw” that is very close to that of dedomed XP-Ls and XM-L2s but without the weird colored tint shifts that dedoming causes. Plus you don’t have to worry about dedoming it. However, it will never have the throw of a dedomed XP-G2. I’m more of a cool white person but I’m getting to where I really like dedomed XP-G2s and XM-L2s because of the extra throw. I did put an XP-L HI in my M3XS-UT the other day though. It looks a lot better now.

DIYfire. The choice of wireheads everywhere.

Brought to you by … well … you!!

I’m a cool white person too! :sunglasses:

Convoy 8 AK47 7135*8 OP for me… but Thorfire looks great with an extra moon-mode.

Wicked! I’m having naughty dreams of owning a safely orange version of this light.
The fact that I still did not pull the trigger on it is not related to Convoy, Thorfire or n10sivern.
But to the thought that shipping and customs duties (on goods + shipping!) would be more than half of the total cost.

For current stock lights I like the Convoy for it’s consistent good quality- you know for certain what you’ll get plus many emitter choices to be had. For modding Ultrafire may throw better, also XinTD. A dedomed XPG2 kicks butt with these lights but they’ve changed that emitter so the XPL Hi is probably best for throw now.

Well, cursing in the church here
after baking and with the easy to remove pill thus easy modding I now have a new favorite C8

Ultrafire light, got refunded because it was advertised as Convoy, came with next mode memory and LB led in black.
Now coppery look, BLF A6 driver and XML2 warm white led. More usefull then my Convoys C8 that are missing the moon

I’m glad y’all like the cerakote job on Robert’s thorfire C8. Even more important, I’m glad he is happy with it
