Battle about to begin over defective DX item: UPDATES

So i received this light on Tuesday from DX: > http://www.dx.com/p/fandyfire-8-led-7700lm-r8-super-bright-led-household-outdoor-flashlight-red-grey-4-x-18650-420446
It was a DOA on arrival. i took it apart to see if it was something simple like a wire off, no luck. it would not turn on regardless and is likely a dead driver or just a crap light. I open a Ticket form DX, and the first response i get is i have to ship it back to them to get a refund or store credit! I live in Canada, and the cost if shipping this heavy Piece of crap would cost me more than the $30 bucks i wasted for the light in the first place.
This is really the first time i had a problem with DX in this way, and will not waste money shipping this back to them, (and likely they claim it got lost or tampered with & losing more money. I am open to suggestions here, should i file a Paypal claim against them immediately? or wait to see what their next reply will be to my dissatisfaction to their ridiculous first solution.

- So now after a few emails back and forth, they insist that i pay for shipping to get the light back to them, (which will cost me nearly what i paid for the DOA faulty useless trash i received from DX) i am reaching the end of my rope & patience in this matter, and will escalate to a Paypal claim against them to get my money back.

Put up with a couple/few exchanges, and then if you are sure that you are being jerked around, then file with Paypal

Or, just make your correspondence through Paypal resolution center’s E-mail system. They seem to take it a bit more serious.

Hey mate i believe you can claim back shipping cost through Paypal? I am not sure if this is an Australian only thing? It appears to be world wide maybe read up on that!

Looking at the link here http://www.dx.com/page-Conditions#return_policy
It seems they have US drop-off points in California and Illinois and will cover postage up to 35% of the value of the item or $40. More than that you need to contact their CS (which you have already done).

Is the postage from Canada to California any more palatable than China Den?

PayPal will probably end up being your best bet but I’d give them the opportunity to live up to their “100% Satisfaction guaranteed or Your money back” sticker.

I guess it’s just one of the many joys of dealing with drop-shippers who in all likelihood have never seen the product they are selling, much less taken any interest in testing it before they flog it off abroad.

EDIT: I’m sure you are normally smarter than to buy something like this Den. Do I detect Ultimate Lantern Mk II in the works?

Just send them a message you’re willing to send whatever photo of video, but mailing back is only an option at their account.

Say if they don’t solve it with a refund or replacement, you’ll file a PP claim in about a week if it’s not solved by then.

That way you give them a way to make it right. There is PP protection for good reason. However, from the Netherlands it is not so easy to get a refund from PP in my experience…

Edit: i had a few doa’s with DX, they were alway solved in a really nice matter. They actually made me comfortable in buying straight from china. Maybe just a bad rep.

Now this I would refuse since you know we do pay for all Paypal costs in the end.
I need a dispute via PayPal to see if holding my grounds on this principal matter stands.
Ibdo think vendor is responsible for faulty or wrongly advertised stuff and should pay return shipping
Have a srk clone underway from EBay and kind of hope it is rubbish to be able to finally test how PayPal would deal with it.

I had a defective flashlight from DX.com
I requested a RMA and they said if it was still useable, they could offer a discount.
But one of the emmiters was dead.
Shipped it to the California address for under 20.00 cdn.
I got a credit for the flashlight and shipping amount.
It was great customer service.

I bought the same flashlight as your having problems with.
My second flashlight is having some odd issues.
It worked fine. Change the batteries. Now not turning on.
I can plug in the charger and the flashlight works.
Unplug charger, hit the power button it comes on for half a second then turns off.
Last time it did this, I wiggled the power cord on the flashlight and it worked.
But nothing now.

“ship it back” can be a common initial response from some sites. They are creating some resistance in hopes that you’ll just go away. Just tell them how much shipping will cost and that DX would have to pay for it. In no way will you pay for shipping. Nor will you shut up and go away.

Yea, it's a PIA for sure, but that's how I did it - hound them, explain it out carefully, never surrender and eventually you win - did this with GearBest and it worked. Trying to recall, think I did it under the PayPal dispute system because they were not cooperating in the GB CS method - it works with no PP involvement whatsoever, just a negotiation platform, and there's some rules like if the vendor doesn't respond within a length of time, they automatically lose - a rule I like!

Best of luck. DX seems pretty Paypal savy. They sent me a 12 emitter light with fake Cree emitters. I tried to work it out with DX directly, but they kept taking me in circles. I finally made my case as clearly as it could be made to Paypal. Paypal’s final decision was that I would have to return the light at my cost for refund. I called Paypal about their discussion, they agreed to refunded my purchase out of Paypal funds. Said it was a one time courtesy to me.

So now after a few emails back and forth, they insist that i pay for shipping to get the light back to them, (which will cost me nearly what i paid for the DOA faulty useless trash i received from DX) i am reaching the end of my rope & patience in this matter, and will escalate to a Paypal claim against them to get my money back.

I think in one of the grey sections of PayPal’s policy book, it states that the seller has the right to request the defective item in order to issue a refund. However it’s unclear whether if this applies in all claims with all sellers, or PayPal has preferences for some shops. Fortunately most of the times when you open a ticket overloaded with evidence, PayPal decides on our favor.

The very few times I have dealt with PayPal personnel, their responses seemed to be programmed, to the point I thought I was exchanging emails with a computer program. I guess they have seen so many claims they no longer care about the frustration, so the key is to follow the game and provide the evidence before they request it.

I consider sites like DX, Gearbest, Banggood and Fastech to be “budget” sites.

Sometimes you get what you ordered, sometimes you don’t. If what I ordered arrives broken or defective. Or doesn’t arrive at all… oh well. Chalk it up to budget service and write it off as a loss (or host for mod parts).

That said, I’ve bought lots of items from DX and have had excellent results. Out of at least 10+ orders over the last 5+ years everything I ordered eventually arrived. It might take 6 weeks to arrive, but it does arrive.

But will they credit your account for the shipping amount?

nope they won’t. All i am getting from them is a run around. DX is a rip off seller who takes your money in exchange for trash. They are red-flagged by me now as a bad seller.

Any further news?

They ignored my third email, so i filed a Paypal claim. DX is now on my red-flag of crook sellers to AVOID.
