Performance:

As you can see from the charts this light is a strong performer with Alkaline batteries. NIMH performance isn’t too shabby either. It has a great run time with NIMH and appears to be very well regulated. It’s definitely not the brightest light in the pack, but I think the really strong Alkaline performance and the great runtime with NIMH makes this light a definite winner in its price range. This light is probably the best choice for someone who is going to EDC this light with Alkalines or a energizer lithium.

Construction:

As far as I see this light is built well and has decent threads and Annodizing. Would this light rock with a Nichia? yes… but until that day comes… One thing in particular I like about this light is the very stiff tail clicky. When it comes to pocket sized AAA my main complaint and problem is the light turning on in my pocket. This just doesn’t happen with this light. I know some people see this as a negative, but I think it’s fantastic. If you were to ask me what my favorite kind of edc light is, I’m going to tell you a 1xaaa light with a reverse clicky tailswitch, a simple user interface and no blinky modes. Well, this light pretty much fits the bill. There isn’t a ton to say about this light. It’s pretty standard construction, driver, and led. It could definitely be improved by a better LED, but I do understand that places like Thorfire can’t change the LED every 5 minutes without losing customers.

conclusion:

The PF03 is definitely one of the better 1-AAA lights on the market. This light is about perfect for the person who will use Alkaline batteries the majority of the time, or just isn’t interested in rechargeable batteries. You may find the tail switch to be too stiff to your liking, but for me it is a strong preference. The construction is good, performance is good, and the price is right. This is a light you can typically get for under $20 (currently $16.99) on Amazon. This light would definitely make a great gift light, and you can rest assured that the recipient will be happy with the performance, unlike other lights that perform fantastically with NIMH but get about 10 minutes of usable light with an Alkaline. I bought this light just before Christmas from Amazon while doing a little Christmas shopping. It has seen about 2 months of pocket carry. It fits very well onto jeans, and also works well in a shirt collar. I also carried it for a while clipped to my ID lanyard with no problems with the clip.
