How about a contest (no prize however) for the one who has been a member here the shortest period of time (just as an indication of having flashlights as a hobby for the shortest period of time) that has purchased the most flashlights.
This is a self-policing contest :) It is a quantity contest as well. So, who thinks they have purchased the most flashlights in the shortest period of time?
I'm not even in the running so I won't post regarding mine but (for fun) if you think you might be the winner just post how many flashlights you have purchased over roughly have much time!
I have bought multiples of some lights. (not sure why- lol). Yes I lost the plot for a while. I have bought more than one each week.
Definite 53 this year.. 64 since Aug last year (when it all began). but there may be more. Also bought a heap of batteries and 7 chargers. I didn't think it was that many.
So what would you say is your "theme" :) What type of light do you find yourself being drawn to more than other types? With as many lights as you buy there must be a pattern developing?
I don't have a bunch of lights (by your standards) but I know that for whatever reason I seem to have more natural attraction for headlamps and/or 1 AAA lights and smaller lights in general.
This thread leaves me scratching my head, you guys say it's all about budget lights, "lights we can afford". People who buy more expensive brands seem to be denounced as spendthrifts and yet we have people proudly declaring "Definite 53 this year.. 64 since Aug last year" even at $20 average per flashlight that's a shit load of cash.
I think I'm happy with the few "more expensive flashlights" I have. I only got interested in flashlights this year and what I have bought have on my limited budget been excellent value (well less than $200) 3 lights $75, $32 & $50.
Ive brought about 8 and its time to put the brakes before I spin outta control like some others here ...Ive already gifted 3 of'em and the rest I have plenty'a use for ..but Im still looking its very addictive
I'm scratching my head too. I may have been better off buying less and getting a few exe lights. I bought one yesterday and am waiitng on one or two. Why? Don't know. There is no pattern I just bought everything. My intention is to gift a few. I have already given away 5. I have spent a lot. Some where less than 15 but a lot were around 30 -40.
when you compare a few hundred dollars ... or a 1000$ to the amount of money people spend on woodworking tools or RC cars or road racing.. you could buy dang near any light you could ever want and not even scratch the surface ..Most of us are happy with 30 lights or less ..At 20$ average with batteries ,chargers etc .. that's 800$ .. the price of bad moped. Think of it this way ... people smoke 3000$ awaya year and think nothing of it. That's alot of jetbeams
Boaz hit it on the head. Every hobby I've ever had cost more than this. One afternoon at the gun range could fund a dozen or more budget lights. I drop $50 at the book store and . . .
Maybe I'll just use my boss's account, give him the cash and buy every damn thing I want . . . waaaaahhh
