Drill and driver bit recomendations?

Hey folks as the tittle says can you recommend a decent drill and driver bit set?

Do i really have to spend $200 to get a set that will not break?

I drill into brick some times and i found a good set for that work for brick my house is double brick so they get a work out lol but the masonry bits have a kind of shovel on the front. I don’t know much about steel sets? They seem to be the ones that always snap.

I do not really drill into wood much but my mate got me an empty keg and i am thinking about turning it into a seat so i may be doing some wood work soon.

I just found a Hitachi its good a price $80 i know they make amazing tools but are the drill and drivers bits the same quality.

I am kind of over having bits snap partly my fault also i guess because i am inpatient :person_facepalming:

Regards Chris.

I’m a Milwaukee tools guy for the drill, but I’ve found Makita and Dewalt bits seem to hold up better long term. Not sure on Hitachi. Ryobi is good for the odd-ball bits you know you’ll only need once or twice. I ended up buying a few smaller sets from different brands and combining the bits I need regularly into a single Dewalt carrier.

Budget lights, budget tools I guess

Yea i am the same all my tools are mix and match i have some that are expensive and some that are cheap that i thrash with out much worry lol.

My best mate bought me a Ryobi cordless for my birthday a few years ago and it came with bits i used them and you are right they are only good for odd jobs the steel is so soft you can see them flex and they break easy. Ryobi is a big brand here with DIY users but since changing to only being sold at one retailer here they are slowly getting worse. No longer made in Japan they are made in China but i think they still use Japanese parts for now.

I can’t recommend a brand, but I think your technique might be a problem. I bought a cheap set of Frost bits and aside from needing sharpening slightly quicker than my Zebra bits they have been fine. I drill a fair amount of steel and have only broken one and it was my fault, I was drilling a weld joint of 3mm mild with a horrible 6mm bead.

Perhaps have a look at some drill speed charts, I used to struggle with dull bits until I started using roughly the correct speed, and don’t forget to lubricate.

Turning a keg into a seat seems like a bit of a waste to me, I would turn it into a smoker.

Yea i was looking at frost and Sutton bits they look good. I bought craftright bits and i haven’t broken them yet and they are cheap i think it depends on the steel they use.
