Finally got my hands on the brand new Thrunite TN40 super thrower! Its an awesome light and probably the first light I have had that I like better than my all time favorite my TN32. Decided to take it out tonight and and photograph a shootout between it, my TN32, my Firefoxes FF4 Extreme(65 watt version), my Gen 3 Maxabeam CSWL, my TK22, and my Imalent SA04 2016.
The first thing you’ll notice in the photos is that the TK22 and the Imalent are aimed at a different tree than the other super throwers. The trees farthest out there are about 500ft away and neither the Imalent or the TK22 were able to reach them. The TN40 makes the TN32 look dim and insignificant in the throw department. It was hard to tell but, by eye, the TN40 appeared to out throw the FF4 too, although it did not compare in sheer light output. And lastly the Maxabeam’s throw is simply out of this world LOL, however total light output is very low. Probably, a little more than the Imalent or around 1000-1300 lumens on high. This is the Gen3 maxabeam however I was told that it still uses the old style reflector which only develops around 6million candlepower. This would mean that the later gen3 Maxabeams that are 12million candlepower would be twice this intensity!! Insane!
So on to the pics.
The Lights.
The TK22 was the dimmest light and had the least throw.
The Imalent SA04 fared marginally better than the TK22 in the throw department but total light output was quite a bit more.
Thrunites previous long range XML thrower the TN32 can easily reach the trees farther out there.
TN40 totally kills the TN32 in light output and throw. Massively more throw and about twice the lumens.
Nothing beats the FF4 on 65watt boost mode for sheer light output. Huge flood with massive throw but it does not appear to have the reach the TN40 has.
Maxabeam on low beats all the lights as far as throw goes however Im not sure how usable such a tight beam is for everyday purposes.
Maxabeam on high totally smokes the other lights. Still a super tight beam but the little spill it has is now a little more usable.
Hope yall enjoyed those photos. Now I got to see if I can find another location so that I can take even longer range photos. Gonna be hard to find a location where we can see the maximum reach of the Maxabeam though haha!
