A lot of “COB LED” flashlights are showing up.
Here’s one of many, the page shows you dozens of other kinds.

Anyone know anything about them?

Sources for the COB emitters, for modding/improving?

Hmm link does not work
Please use the button (fifth from left on quick reply ) and a word, sometimes it does work then (so we see a click able word instead of link)

I have a Nebo Larry.

I paid $5 from AMZ review Trader.

I like it, its neat and fairly bright. Not a warm tint but nor bluish.

is the light from OP

Had to order one just to see. Also order this one that has 20 and 3 emitters:

If they are anything like this one, I will be happy. This light is by far my favorite light to use under the car, hood, dash type work. Pure even flood with nice tint and no throw.

I bought mine at gearbest, its a cobi lil larry clone. I ordered it a week ago so i cant say anything about it but its cheap, you cant go wrong i guess. I guess its a very cold color temp but who cares for that price. This one is aluminium, they also have a plastic one for nearly the same price.

I actually picked up a few of these in various sizes & tints recently, but haven’t had a chance to play with them yet. Seems like bare emitters are mostly 12v, at least from what I saw at BG.

One example:

I love the one I have and I would recommend it for anyone. It would be great for work, where you wanted to always have a light that could stick to metal objects and gave enough light for close up. It's an even spread of light and I really like it. I also keep one for the car as well. Great because of the magnet.

I don't remember the brand name. It is yellow bodied and came out of Amazon. One of the most popular ones.

EDIT: Cliplight was the brand and it was on Amazon.

I have the Larry 2. The future Mother In Law knows I’m a flashlight geek, so I got it for a present. In all honesty, it’s really not bad, and very practical I suppose. I think anyone who is not a member of this forum would be impressed, and even for us, it is somewhat useful. Of course I worded my thank you much more eloquently. As future Mother In Laws go, I know I could do much worse.

I bought one of the red cob pen light for under $5AUD from Gearbest a couple of months ago and love it for what it is

It’s on shed and for under the hood duties

Close range only - all flood

Strong magnet too

I saw the same light for $15 at an auto shop here (someone else shops at GB !)

Well I go ahead and order the one from the OP. Looks decent for such a low price.

I linked the same light at gearbest above, maybe you prefer gearbest.

Those NEBo Larry lights are expensive here in germany, thats why i ordered a clone. Cant believe that some of you bought those NEBO lights for 5 dollars, damn.

Thanks, nothing beats the dispute system of AliExpress and its even cheaper so I ordered there.
For another topic I was looking at Amazon.de bur yeah all is much more expensive there.
Amazon is like a last resort (for example ordered super lube there)

Came across those COB work lights on GB a few months ago. I am an automotive enthusiast a have many friends in the repair business. Been giving them (Plastic version) away to buddies and family. Got a few Aluminum ones for myself. So far only one casualty, where it got too hot and melted the lens on a plastic version. Buddy asked whats the waranty? I said I would give him a full refund on his free light. He is 5hour drive from me but I will get him another one on my next visit in a couple weeks.

Snap-on sells a similar light for $30, large auto parts chain sells the same $3 light for $15 around here. Another friend said his paint supplier sells them for $9.

Oh yeah I did have a couple tail magnets come out but CA glue took care of that. I run Eneloops in mine and found one left on inside my backpack. Found it Sunday morning & had not moved the pack since Friday. It was still lit after 2+ days. Not Bright but Lit.

Very practical work light for it’s size. Worth the $3

I have a couple. I keep one in each car.

I agree with Bikenbeer on the tint. It is a handy light to have in the car in the event that I need it.

Bob

For what they are, they are very handy. My wife got a couple about a year ago and they have held up very well!

I have a Nebo Boig Magnum Larry I saw at my local Ace hardware but ordered on Amazon. Great work light. Super strong magnet and wide, smooth, floody beam. Rated at 450 lumens and looks at least that bright to the naked eye. My only complaints are the UI (must click through all modes to off) and visible PWM in the lower mode but under the hood its not an issue. I would like to see a good low mode on it for extended emergency lighting.

Really 350 lumens the ones listed at banggood??

I saw some that run on 4 x AAA batteries. Anyone have these? Are they brighter or do they run longer?

I have a friend who is a Heating and A/C tech. He said he and the guys he works with all use a light like this for their work. He likes that it will shine into a small space and light it up evenly, without being too bright. He also likes that he can clip it onto the outside of his shirt pocket, so it will light up a small area directly in front of him for working. I tried to give him something brighter and he said it was too bright for the small spaces he works on. My contest light this year is (very loosely) inspired by this style light. But, it won’t be nearly as shirt-pocket friendly.
