CONVOY S2+ BATTERY

Will Convoy S2+ accept a 18650 protected,and is a protected cell even a good idea/needed for S2+ ?

Looking at NCR18650B protected for first foray into rechargeable battery flashlight.

I see that some flashlights will not work with protected cells because of their length.

What do you use in yours, or reccommend?

I have NiteCore i4 charger currently, and have only used for AAA/AA’s for kids Xbox/TV remotes.

The S2+ has lvp so you don’t really need to use a protected cell. I never use protected cells in any of my lights that have lvp but others may and do feel differently.

Will using a protected cell in a flashlight with lvp cause problem ?

No

Well its another thing that could go wrong :person_facepalming:

Might as well get some extra capacity with the NCR18650GAs.

Nothing wrong with dual redundant safety systems.
Personally, I think if people are asking the protected/unprotected question, they should probably be using protected.
As far as I’m aware the max width of an 18650 that will fit in a S2+ is 18.7mm which restricts some of the more obese protected cells. Not sure about length restrictions, but I think most protected cells will fit length wise.

If you use protected cells you need to have a charger that will reset the protection circuit or you won’t be able to recharge it if it trips.

One can also “kick start” it with another battery or anything else that will get the tripped battery up above zero volts.

The EVVA protected NCR18650GA fits in my Convoy S2+. Both bought from Richard at Mountain Electronics.
Its tight but I’ve never had an issue getting the battery in and out. The advantage? Zero rattle.
