Clip for X2/C8/KE5/KE2

Hi. I've been lurking for a while and really enjoy the forums. Kudos to everyone for all the great info. I just ordered an Ultrafire X2 from KD and was wondering if anyone knows if the Solarforce clip would fit on it. I think the stainless steel clip would accent the bezel nicely(being fashionable is important in an attack, err I mean defensive flashlight ;). If no one knows offhand, maybe you could post the diameter of the tube for one of the compatible Solarforce models and we can figure out if it will fit. Or maybe some ideas for other clips that might fit.

I've also been eyeing that Keygo5 KE-5 on ebay, might want to clip that one too.

Also would like to hear your thoughts on the Ultrafire X2, since I couldn't find much about it. I just ordered it yesterday, so it'll be a few weeks before it gets here. When it does, I'll try to post the current reading at the tailcap.

I also ordered the Sipik68's 18650 big brother clone from eBay - got it for 10.45. Yeah, the addiction is on high - is there a 12 mode, err, 12 step program available for flashaholics?

Edit: Now that I think about it, 12 steps is probably too many - 8 should be plenty(I think the last four steps are just blinking anyway).

Welcome to BLF,

I actually have the solarforce L2 retaining ring at I think its the same diameter with the belt clip. Tried it with my KE5 and KE2(which I believe is same with UF X2) and it wont fit. The L2 has smaller diameter than the KE5, KE2, X2, C8.

I'm also looking for clip for mine.

Thank you for the reply. Disappointing to hear it wont fit the KE5, but it looks like the KE5 may have larger diameter threads than the X2, so there may be hope yet(I'll measure the X2 when I receive it). Any chance you could post the diameter in mm of the KE5 threads and the Solarforce ring? The KE2 looks identical to the X2, so probably the same diameter.

Edit: I studied the pics more closely and it looks like the KE5 has a smaller diameter center section on the tube, but thread area looks to be the same diameter as the others. Bummer. The search for a clip continues...

I dont have the measuring tool. But the X2 and the Keygos KE2 seems to be the same light so it wont fit either.

What about one of the Fenix clips? Would any of those fit?

Edit: Found this on Google: "The FENIX PD20 has a listed diameter of 21.5mm". Does anyone know the diameter of the tube on a C8 type body? Found some sites that put it at 24mm. Maybe the clip could stretch to fit?

Edit2: The TA21 listed diameter is 25.4 - wrap some electrical tape on the C8/X2 tailcap below the lip and this clip may just work. It depends on where they measured the 25.4 - see below.

Edit3: The tailcap area just below the lip on the C8 looks to be a slightly larger diameter than the body(nope - same size). The TA21 clip could be a perfect fit.

If someone has a TA21(or any of the other lights listed in the link above) and a digital caliper, could you measure the diameter of the tube just below the tailcap - even a ruler would work to get a ballpark number for the OD of the tube. Also need the OD of the C8 style tube on the tailcap just below the lip.

Welcome to BLF, JackFlash! I hope you find what you are looking for with these clips.

Thanks! :-) I hope so too, and I hope others will benefit from the research we do here.

JackFlash Whats the Ultrafire X2 Like?

Given that tubes are almost invariably round there is surely a business opportunity for someone making a generic range of snap-on clips stepping up 1mm in size.

Or perhaps someone could design a variable size ring, perhaps like a cable tie but the lock hides under the clip bit once its fitted.

As soon as I get it, I'll post some info about it. I ordered it on 10/6/2011 from KD and it was just processed through the Hong Kong sort facility today(10/15) :-(. Guess KD is kinda slow. It should be here within the next couple weeks. I hate waiting!

Yeah, I think there would definitely be a market for that. Surprising how few clips are available. I seem to remember coming across a post (can't remember if it was here or the Other Place) about someone who was going to make them but not sure if they ever actually did.

I did try making one myself out of some stiff wire - it would have worked but it kept slipping out of the threaded area at the tailcap. This was on a different light, so I'll have to test it on the X2 when it gets here. I'm thinking one of the Fenix clips could be made to work - I just need to take measurements of the X2 first.

I placed an order today for 3 of the Fenix clips - PD20, PD30 and TA21. Got them for 1.50 each + one dollar shipping from the link in the other thread. I'll post results when I get the X2, which did arrive today, but I don't actually have(see below).

Seems for some reason only known to my mailperson and God, rather than placing the package in my mailbox, she placed it BACK IN HER BAG. Yup, thats right. She walked up on my porch, reached into her bag, pulled out the package from KD containing my Ultrafire X2, looked at it and then PUT IT BACK IN HER BAG. She then proceded to leave 2 coupons from DinoDirect in my mailbox and WALKED AWAY with the package still in her bag. You're wondering how I know this and why I didn't ask her for the package? I have security cameras on my porch and I wasn't there at the time. The package was shaped like a flashlight :-) So it gets worse. I checked the tracking for the package and sure enough it says "Notice Left" a few minutes after the time stamp from the camera. The only problem is - SHE DIDN'T LEAVE A NOTICE. So now I can't go pick it up. I have to hope they re-deliver, not tomorrow, but in two days since today was Saturday and no mail on Sunday, have to wait till Monday. Ugh. Total USPS incompetence. She's not my regular mailman, so obviously and obliviously she had some sort of brain fart. Or maybe she's not quite clear on how this whole mail delivery thing is supposed to work(Instructions: 1.Remove item from mail sack. 2.Place in mailbox. Note: Do not simply look at the package and will it to be delivered - you must physically place the item in the mail box. I mean they teach this at mailman school right ;-) ). I dunno. But I cannot fathom why on God's Good Earth she didn't ring the doorbell or leave the package or the notice or anything.

Update: Went to the PO on Monday and picked up the package. Same package from the video. It had written on it "L/N 10/22" which I guess stands for "Left Notice" - of course there was no notice left. Maybe she didn't have her scanner with her or just didn't want to be bothered to wait for me to sign for it.

Mailman school .

Priceless .

Now that I finally have the Ultrafire X2 in my hand, I can provide some diameter measurements for fitting a clip:

Handle: 25.0 mm

Bottom part of tailcap(near where it screws on): 25.3 mm

Middle part of tailcap: 28.6 mm

The clip for the Fenix TA21 is listed at 25.4 mm so might be a good fit with a little electrical tape or a little squeeze. Its also 2 inches long which would put the tip of it just at the end of the knurling on the handle with the ring end butted up against the wide part of the tailcap. My clips will hopefully be here tomorrow. I'll update then.

Update: The TA21 clip fits great on the X2!

Note that this will probably also work on other C8 style lights. YMMV.

Clip can be purchased here for $1.50 plus $1.00 shipping.

For bezel down operation:

1. Place a small piece of tape under the clip end(opposite the ring) to prevent scratches

2. Unscrew the tailcap

3. Carefully bend the clips rings outward slightly

4. Slide the clip onto the outside of the threaded end of the tailcap (or you can slide it onto the body which would probably be easier)

5. Carefully screw on the tailcap

6. Remove the tape from under the clip end

7. Let the clip end rest on the cutout on the handle (the part without the knurling where the logo etching is)

8. Clip away!

The only caveat here is that since the clip is attached to the tailcap, unscreweing it with the tape removed could cause scratches on the knurling. Might be better to unscrew the head end to change the battery. You could also slide the clip off the tailcap and onto the body temporarily to remove the tailcap. You can also leave the clip installed on the body permanently, letting it rest in the groove, but it makes it more difficult to clip on a pocket in this position.

The clip attaches easily to a pocket or belt and is not too tight. It also won't pop off and is secured well on the tailcap.

Note that the clip for the PD20 might also be made to work by attaching it to the groove in the handle. But since its smaller it may not work as well as the TA21 clip.
