Lumintop IYP365 - thoughts?

I’m sure ‘many’ of these were purchased. I got a Nichia one. I like the switch. I like the mode order of M-L-H. Nice looking light, and simple. Good price on the GB.

I can’t wait for mine to show up! It’s such a premium looking light, especially for the price range.

I like the shallowness of the switch more than my BLF-348. I can operate my IYP-365 like a pen, like this:

My BLF-348 switch requires too deep of a press to activate. I have to hold it tightly and really dig my thumb down to activate it.

I like that the IYP-365 comes up on medium by default. It’s the right brightness for me to walk around my apartment at night. I see myself using this light a lot at night now.

The only complaint I have with the IYP-365 is the same complaint with the Lumintop Tool - no momentary on. For momentary on, I use my Terralux Lightstar 80.

Very light, lights up on a well choosen med mode (the most used mode for me by far saves me to have to cycle through low mode(s)), very good clicky switch, Nichia goodness, great beam profile, not too tacky design, very low price with groupbuys, bought 2 more after receiving the first one.

TLDR : FANTASTIC

Well, I guess I got a dud. I put some new batteries in it and it turned on for the first time, I was giddy cause it’s such a nice looking light. But… as I kept changing through the modes I noticed the switch started to not latch. Now it won’t latch at all and wont turn the light on at all. I sent an email and am gonna open a ticket on it. Disappointing because I was really looking forward to this one.

That’s disappointing. :frowning: I hope you get a working light soon.

I bought nine of these for my friends and I in the recent group buy. All of them work perfectly.

I’m very impressed with the build quality and mode spacing, and the Nichia tint is especially nice.

If anyone is thinking about getting one, do it! :+1:

Yea, I’m hoping it get a replacement. It is such a nice light that I really want one that works to carry around!

Yeah… it’s a super nice light.

Your review helped me decide to go for these… as well as several other lights in my collection.

Another YouTuber named ‘virtuovice’ also convinced me. He is a doctor and outdoorsman in Japan and has lots of flashlight videos.

He especially loves Nichia tints for illuminating human tissue, specifically looking into patients’ throats. The IYP365 is his new favorite.

If you will all excuse me for going off-topic, I’ll mention that he also has bushcraft, hunting, and fly fishing videos.

His videos aren’t organized into playlists, but here are a couple to start with.

Worked out a ticket with the retailer. They are sending me another. I just hope it doesn’t take too long to get here! I guess I can tear into the broken one and maybe try to fix it.

Awesome dude! He knows his lights. I like his channel. Yeah the IYP365 is a great light. It took the palce of the BLF-348 as my favorite in this size. I wish the 348 had a few more modes… although the tint was nice.

Hi,

I asked this on the GB thread but haven’t seen a response, but I am wondering if anyone has tried this like with 1x10440 + 1 x dummy AAA battery?

I know that this won’t work with 2x10440, but in the past, I’ve tried the 10440+dummy AAA in several 2xAAA lights, and it has always worked (and is brighter than 2xAAA).

Ok, I guess that I’ve been around here long enough that I might expect a response like “no, so why don’t you try it?”…. so, I just did, with the XP-G2 one, and it worked!! Mind you, this was only a really short test, running through the modes a couple of times, but it definitely worked and it still worked after I put the 2 AAA eneloops back in. The 10440 was an unprotected Efest 350 mAh battery (black).

So now, who’s up to try for a longer test :)???

I was going to ask YOU to try it since u had the necessary parts, but then I figured you didn’t have the flashlight. I don’t know, to me the light is fine as is. Thanks for the report.

The other problem is I only have 1 CW and 1 NW of these lights, so I can’t ACTUALLY compare the brightness of the 1x10440 vs. 2xAAA, but in my other lights where I’ve done this, it is signifcantly brighter with the 1x10440

EDIT: Yea, I know, so maybe I should buy a couple more, right :)???

15$ for a classy EDC penlight ? Yes please !

I have the nichia version and its a bit dim for me, i should have bought the cree version. The switch needs to be stiffer for my purpose because i wear it in my jeans pocket. It turned itself on from time to time. I dont like the mode order at all, makes no sense to me. A true moonlight would be nice as well. Others than that its ok, nice quality finish and a decent price (group buy).

Well, so far I’ve been batting 0-2 on mine. First one I got had a bad switch, got replacement sent to me. It arrived a week or so ago and now the switch has gone out in it… Not looking good for this lumintop model for me…

The one i used developed switch problems, i started using another one (i have 3), i’ll let you know if the switch also goes bad, oh well…

Anyone have updated info about the possible switch problem on this light?
Thanks
