Illumn fixed my Convoy L6 for free!

This is a copy of "Cheer" I posted at CPF today. I am reposting here so I can spread the good news about Illumn.

Last week I stayed at a hotel in San Jose that happened to be within three miles of Illumn. Fantastic! That gave me the opportunity to be a walk-in customer at the Illumn store.

Calvin and Craig showed me much of their current offerings, including a very interesting Olight H05S Headlamp. This 2xAAA headlamp uses a TIR optic to produce a wide, generous hot spot. That's just what I like in a headlamp. It also features the Olight "wave" technology, so that you can change modes by waving your hand in front of an IR sensor. As yet, Olight does not offer neutral tint, so it won't be replacing my ZebraLight H600Fd Mk. III. For a "work" light, however, that you might store in the trunk of a vehicle, the H05S could be just the thing you need.

A word about tint: My Olight S1 Copper Rose Gold has a "cool white" emitter. When CPF member maukka tested a similar flashlight from Olight, he measured CCT at 5410K. If that's what Olight now sells as "cool white," then I am coming aboard. I cannot say, however, what CCT you will find in the H05S.

After taking the tour at Illumn, I showed Calvin and Craig some of the flashlights I had with me. This included the Convoy L6. Mine is the neutral-white edition. It pumps out something like 3200 lumens from a Cree XHP70 emitter.

While testing the L6, Craig spotted a small solder ball rolling around loose in the head. Even though Convoy is not a brand that Illumn sells, Craig happily dismantled the head and removed the offending solder ball. Thanks, Craig.

When I got home from my hotel stay, I discovered that my BLF Kronos X5 flashlight was not in my flashlight travel box. I worried that I might have left this small handheld flashlight on the counter at Illumn. In response to my email, Craig looked back over the video security footage at Illumn to see whether I had replaced it in my travel kit after showing it to Calvin and him. Indeed, I had properly put it away. Later, I found the X5 stowed deep in the pocket of a jacket where I had looked for it twice already.

Cheers to Illumn!

What a nice story.
But also very puzzling… Where did that solder come from?
Why did you not see it? He saw it in the head so it was bouncing in the reflector? Man I can go on with the questions so puzzled I am now

It is great to hear actual western stores exist where they take the time and are passionate about their work.

Illumn is a great place to deal with… Great service even if you cannot get into the store.

It is somewhat embarrassing that I had not noticed the solder ball, especially since I inspected the head, emitter, and reflector. The ball was tiny, less than a 16th of an inch in diameter. It only became noticeable when moving the head. That caused it to roll around the inside the reflector.

It sure is!
