LuxStone X30 Diving/Search light Review

I was asked by the company “A4C” to review the LuxStone X30 Diving/Searchlight. The light was sent free of charge in exchange for my review but as always I will do my best to give my honest opinion , so here we go.

I will say first , this is a Monster of a light at 3.4 pounds. (although that wont be a lot of a factor underwater) It does come with a built on handle and a shoulder strap though and is balanced well in the hand when using the handle. It does have an older XML SST90 emitter in it and that has already been mentioned about maybe an upgraded emitter in this light to the company. In defense of the older technology , I have to say with that BIG ol reflector in this light (86mm at the top inside edges measurement , and it is deep) , although I cant measure that due to the light being sealed , it does do a good job of getting light down range. The beam is not real floody but not real tight like a true thrower either , more of a balance between the 2. There are comparison beamshots in the video with the Maxtoch 2X and the Convoy L6 though to give an idea of the beam pattern of the X30 and the brightness compared to those. I also did beamshots of the X30 with the Red and the Green filters that came with the light. I did not show the filters in the video , but those filters are housed in a matching , anodized aluminum frame and screw into the threads that are made into the inside of the bezel.
Other than the XML SST90 emitter (which hopefully will get upgraded in the future) I think this light is a good light and built plenty solid enough to withstand diving and everyday use both. All the other features on the light are done well in my opinion and I like the charge indicators and the dial switch on the side of the handle as you can work it with your thumb while keeping your other hand free if needed.
Me telling about the light , beamshot stills , 12 hour water submersion test ( putting it in and taking it out of water), stills of the light , packaging and accessories and live footage outside , are all in the video and should cover the rest.
Although this does not fall in the “budget light” category , I will say overall , in my own opinion , it is a well built light with some good features and if you are a diver you need a dependable light for sure. I don’t know what the warranty may be on this light , but I do have an email in to the company asking and will post that when I get any information.

EDIT: I did a couple of run time test on the light on high mode and the first test went 1 hour and 28 minutes , the second test went 1 hour and 33 minutes before the LVP kicked in an turned off the light , it did maintain full brightness until it went off. The light does get pretty hot after all that time , but that was also indoors and it does not get quiet so hot outside with air movement. It never got so hot it would blister you instantly or anything like that.

Video and then Specs from owners manual listed below that.
If you wish to watch in full screen and that option does not work , just click the “youtube” tab at the bottom of video screen , as I sometimes have trouble with the full screen option and have to watch videos on the youtube site , to get full screen.

yes they contacted me too, but shipping to France could not be done through the system.
I really like the design, different.
Thanks for the review, wanted to see more since i first clicked the Amazon link for this hefty priced light!

Nice video review.

That is a massive, single emitter reflector! Can you tell how deep it is, or can Luxstone give you that measurement? It is a shame they used an outdated emitter.

It looks like the control switch/wheel should be intuitive and let you adjust/ramp the light with your thumb. Is it easy to use and adjust on the fly?

Nice review. Looks like quite the light for those with a specialized need.

With the light being sealed I cant get a measurement on the depth of the reflector, I did hold it next to the 2X and looked at it though and it is about 1 1/4 inches deeper than the 2X reflector is just eyeballing it. The side wheel is easy to use and can be turned with your thumb while you are holding the light with the handle pretty easily.

The Miller , it definitely is different but at the same time it is comfortable to use , to be such a hefty light.

Also thanks MG

Good review Dave.

I do like some features with this light - rotating output dial, charge indicators, very nice carry case etc, and it appears very well made. But …… I would also like to play with it for a few weeks and make a few changes. At 137,500k its range is more like 740 meters than claimed 1km - and as discussed it’s an ideal candidate for an led upgrade - a dedomed XM2-U4 or perhaps an MTG2. Would also need to lose about half its weight, and half its cost - but if you think of it as a prototype the elements are there for a very interesting development towards a second model.

Is the company open to some design input?

I don’t really know yet if they are interested in changing , the actual company making the lights is a different company than the ones selling them, I don’t know if it will be pursued in the end or not just kind of depends on what they may be willing to do (or not do)

Man….put an XHP70 in this…!!!

I got a little better beamshots tonight (8-26-16) than I had in the video with the X30 , as the fog and rain FINALLY cleared out.
