HID Spotlight Mod.

Not too sure if this is in the right category. I got this 12v cyclops about a year or two ago. I put it through it's paces. I think it's really a great light as is. I had a 55w bulb and ballast lying around. Boredom set in and I got to work. I wasn't really worried about making it pretty or even destroying it. I drilled 2 holes. One for the switch to connect to the ballast and the other to connect the ballast to the HID bulb. It's a snug fit for the wires once you put it together. The pins didn't want to secure the bulb, so the only thing holding the bulb in is the back of the case. Seems pretty secure though. I epoxied the ballast to the back, and it was good to go. I still need to make a spacer to get the beam just right. I know this is not near the caliber of what some of you guys are doing, but I still thought it might be worth a look.

The bulb fit in perfect. I guess this was a pretty lucky mod.

Just cut the wires to length and crimped them inside.

4300k Automotive bulb and ballast.

Beam shot from about 30ft away on kind of a hazy day.

Next I'll post some pics of my Hid's in my POS Crown Vic if anyone wants to see.

Yes. I did. Was suggested that I post it here too. Since I don't really go on cpf anymore.

Looks great , i wanna see some pics of the vic

Ok. As soon as I get my camera back. It will give me a reason to go out to Lost Lake in the middle of the night and play with use my flashlights. The Vic is a junker though. Only paid $400 for it. Just got bored and decided to give it HID high beams.

Good job wasted! Looking forward to more pics and your vic high beams. It sounds like you got the right deal for your ride. Is it a retired police car?

I'm not sure if it's a retired police car. It has a spotlight hole and came with an old school radio thingy in the trunk. But it doesn't have the more powerful 351 engine that most of the police cars had. I'll probably just scrap/sell it once smog comes around. It will be replace by a late model Crown Vic that will be a retired police car for sure.

Wow that is a pretty impressive light, nice job.

Awesome. I really want to do this too!
