Dumpster Brand 18650 Test [ ones to stay away from ] from Ebay

I tried out these dirt cheap [ and turns out to be nasty ] 18650

Well , no real surprise , except they confirmed my suspicion that they were dumpster brand . [ Belong in the rubbish ]

From the 2 cells ordered ,

I did a 1A discharge on both batteries , returning 469mA and 581mA capacity . [ I just dont know ]

Makes you wonder if its just a hollow tube with a 16340 inside ?

Anyways , ones not to buy ..

I dont know , perhaps time for Ebay to demand some sort of proof that products are as advertised , Now there are some real nice high quality stuff on Ebay , and at the same time bottom of the barrel rubbish that maybe should not be sold at all , to anyone , for any reason and these cells may just be such .

WOW! That certainly is pathetic performance. I wouldnt doubt if those are either very old stock (+10 years old) or rebadged used cells. Please post negative feedback for the seller so others wont spend money on dumpster trash.

The problem with eBay is that they don't seem to care. I did go nine rounds with them last year over a charger and battery that turned out to be fire hazard. At first, I thought they just didn't understand the issue so I spelled it out in very clear and simple terms. That didn't help. So I explained it to them like you would to a child. No dice. After some back and forth, they basically asked me to show them a video of the damn thing going up in flames. Strangely, their own subsidy (Paypal) didn't ask for any proof after I sent them the exact same pictures. I guess the only thing you can do is ask for a refund, involve Paypal if necessary and leave feedback to warn others.

Of course they dont care, nor does its sister company paypal. Ebay and its subsidiaries probably comprises one the shadiest large US companies for its size (gross profit as well as margin). Just look how often they change their terms of agreement. Their largest expenditure is probably in legal fees from a team of crack attorneys attempting to maximize profit through the complete elimination of liabilities. They get better and better at accomplishing these goals as time goes on. If you were a share holder, you'd be proud. Otherwise, its called legal robbery and buyer be ware.

There's obviously something wrong with your measuring equipment as the battery clearly states 3000mah

I'm impressed that they got that much of a lemon/galvanized nail/copper into that tiny wrapper to get 500mA.

Seriously, though, thanks for taking the hit for the rest of us. (I'd be particularly proud if that was my 5 bucks at work.)

Maybe this is a new safe technology? If you figure the battery only puts out 500mah, it probably couldn't generate enough heat to catch itself on fire?

We need to be praising these companies looking out for our best interests!
