Best 18350 ptotected batteries for shorty Convoy S2+ and Astrolux S1

Hello all,

I am a total n00b when it comes to lithium ion batteries. I recently bought some Convoy S2+ with the 18350 tube and also an Astrolux S1 that also has the shorty 18350 tube option and I am looking for advice on what 18350 batteries to buy.

Being the n00b that I am I would like to go with protected version but I have been reading that they may be hard to fit in these models. Can anyone suggest some protected 18350’s that would fit these models?

Thanks in advance for any advice

I use 1x 18350 Bestfire from Gearbest. It is a good battery despite the “…fire” brand, can easily stand 2A draw. not protected. also wanted protected cells but wasn’t able to find any good deals.

since those lights have low voltage protection, you might go with

Test/Review of Windyfire IMR18350 850mAh (Red)

Mtnelectronics has them (and provides a link to the review by HKJ)

Else try protected 18350 - Google Search (and set the search tool to “verbatim”)

Not a battery expert, but here’s my understanding……

IMR chemistry is “intrinsically safe” and doesn’t as such have any / or necessarily need any protection circuity. IMR by design is a high drain chemistry.

I haven’t seen any non-IMR 18350 cells.

The WindyFire 18350s didn’t appear to be particularly hi drain. I’ve used a couple of 18350s including AW and Keeppower.

I’ve got quite a few triple / quads and my preference is to run an 18650 in them as I prefer the length. I also have some Oveready lights/drop ins that I run 2 x 18350s in and for those I keep 18350s in pairs for use.

Kinda want to know myself also.

I know nothing of 18350’s beside that they are half the size of a 18650.

Voltage and size are the same.

Are they the same as RCR123A batteries?

No, that would be 16340.

Since you’re Dutch, and maybe i even got this link from you earlier:

https://www.nkon.nl/rechargeable/14500-16340-18350-18490-18500/enerpower-18350-imr-limn-700mah-flat-top-battery.html

Don’t think we ever exchanged any pm’s or other messages, but nice to meet another Dutchie

To that link…… wow there is a 20C rating possible  amazing.

But isen’t a 16340 something totally different with the 16mm diameter?

Gimmy a sec gonna measure something.

My bad buddy you are totally right, I was wrong thanks for the insight.

From the ’oogle search I suggested a few responses back

For those in the US,

Hank,

Thanks for the advice. I asked Richard of Mountain Electronics and he suggested these also, so I purchased some from him. Thanks again.

For European flashaholics:

I’ve been a happy camper for a couple of weeks now with an S2+ shorty, a 3B x6 version - and I’m using a couple of Trustfire 1200’s without any problems. They seemed to have a good rap on Amazon UK where I got them from and I haven’t found any problems yet.

Suffice to say I think the shorty is a magnificent EDC. Short but powerful, runtime not the most important thing for how I use it. Love the feel of it, just a very sensual light IMO. :), very tactile to the touch. Unless you have one I’m not sure you’d understand. I found a couple of tight o-rings to slide over the light into the end grooves to help alleviate the silky slipperiness a touch. They work a treat.

I bought a set of keeppower imr from banggood but still waiting for it for about a month !!
So I bought off Amazon a set of 2 pkcells ICR 900mah flat top(in the description it said voltage cutoff at 3,0v ) is that mean its safe ? Those cells have been tested on youtube and proved to be the right mah ! Should receive these this week !

I do know icr may be more dangerous but the same question came to me for the short astrolux s1 that I just receive!
