Along with many others, I’m sure, I do have a slight feeling of apprehension. I found myself at #1280 on the list and waited patiently. A couple of weeks went by and got an email saying to pay. Did so, got the reply from PayPal and a note from Neal asking for BLF name and phone number. Sent those in with the PayPal transaction number. I have not seen a PM to me at all during the entire time I’ve been waiting and lurking, and no further emails at all.

With the group buy closing and so many new orders, are there those that have paid as I have but have no forum PM to back up their claim? Will we get passed by?

Nearly biting my nails, here!

#1280? I didn’t know anyone that high on the list got sent an email with the payment instructions. I wonder if it was a fluke? I thought only up to #1039 got the email.

Anyway, with 362 lights shipped there are roughly 500 other people just like you. Another shipment of 150 to 200 lights are said to go out late this week.

TA is holding back the emails for all the #1040 and up people until mid January in order to give Neal a chance to fill these last 500 orders. They can only produce 200 or so lights a week due to their size. Especially the giant reflectors.

This is the nature of Group Buys. It’s not like buying a light on a shelf at a store. Wink

I’m not sure how that’s possible. The purchase link was in the PM, (the email is just a notification of a new PM).

There’s a chance you’ve been phished…

Charging batteries for full effect now.
I did not notice any change from ramped max, then double click for turbo.. that is 80 up to 100% …?
I shall try fresh batteries

Again, thanks guys!

Going from 2 to 2.5 amps the difference is going be be hard to see with the eye. Going to have to look at something on the fringes of the GT’s range to see a difference with the naked eye.

He obviously didn’t charge batteries that came with GT , at 3,5V you cant really see any difference….

Yea.. In fact when I looked out about 300 yards and saw no uptick at all I figured they were low. Real low. First 4 just finished charging…
I hope to be at 8x full charge by 10pm

anyone in NE ILLinois into get togethers?

Let’s not jump to conclusions. He said he got his paypal receipt and the email from Neal, so it sounds legit.

He is also protected using Paypal. He can always file a claim if need be.

Northbeard, did you pay on Madmax’s website?

Edit, I sent TA a PM to see if he was sent the purchase information. There might have been a few people accidentally sent the Purchase info who shouldn’t have. It was a mass PM setup by the forum owner so not perfect.

Edit: it turns out to be all legit.

Why would you think it won’t arrive? Is it sarcasm that your waiting too long or do you think it might get lost in shipping?

If it gets lost I’m sure Neal will make it right.

I’m just concerend as i never received any email confirmation or anything when i sent payment & placed order. (zero reply or email) I used to always get some kind of email confirmation from the seller. nothing now for a month. Everyone else here say they got a email confirmation or something when they place their order.

It’s pretty hard to see with your eyes, but the meter shows it.

Should not it be 20%?
Yours is like below 10% boost to Turbo.

No, at that upper limit of output, 20% more current only gives a tiny bit more output. Most of the extra current gets turned to heat.

Keep in mind that ceiling bounce with this light is not so accurate.

I wonder how many new members have signed up due to wanting to buy the GT…?

Would be interesting to get some stats.

On another note –
If I have not missed the group buy, please add me for a 2nd! (Already have some modding ideas…)
If I have missed it…
Well I will just have to be patient then. Wink

Already charging up 8 NCR18650Bs in anticipation for arrival of my GT sometime later this month!

Thanks everyone.

John.

The remarkable thing? That water tower is 1.91 1.90 Miles distant!!!!! (I set up the tripod at a different fence post. Silly )

Wow, that is impressive, I had similar experience when lighting up the towers near me. I went out planning on shining it at one of them, and then swung it around to the other and was surprised when it lit up.

Also, I found this Sinkpad MCPCB that should work until Lumintop (hopefully) releases an xhp70 PCB.

It would need a little sanding off the edges but should not be that hard.

But aluminum? Will that hold up to the heat?

The difference will be pretty minor, particularly if using the stock buck driver @ ~5-6A.

Now if you go full FET with 150-200w, then it could make a difference, but still less then most would think. Particularly with such a large MCPCB.

Although if lumintop does release an mcpcb, then it will be copper and fit perfectly. So that would be the best option. This is simply the second best option.

I would rather use this mcpcb over modding a 6V mcpcb, that is for sure.

Cool, I hope Lumintop does come out with a 12v Copper MCPCB real soon, don’t forget centering ring plates for the XHP70 too. Wink

Jeez even the massive XHP70.2 looks tiny in the GT! Facepalm

!{width:100%}https://s19.postimg.org/wocx0zlzn/IMG_20180105_193350.jpg!

Yep, the GT is huge.

I can post the CAD for the centering ring I am using if you can print it off.

I noticed a slight change.

But I agree it would be really hard to see if you aren’t looking for it, well if you were looking for it and expect more of a change then it really is, then it could be hard to miss.

This was with only 4 30Q batteries at 3.9v. The 8 35E are still charging. Sad

This is why we settled on 2A and 2.5A. The difference between them is hard to see with the human eye and going even further to 3A has an even smaller effect.

Wife comes into master while I’m shaving.
“You just got something important, I had to sign for it.”
Thanks honey.
I run to do some errands, get my mind off it still being light out. (arrived in 2 days to my home from Hong Kong. Way to go DHL, that’s insane)

Setup camera on tripod to do an unboxing video. I unboxed, assembled and then shot it across our lake sized retention pond here in FL. It was a ridiculously easy test for this light, not even fun.

So I go into the bedroom where my 6 year old daughter and wife are brushing teeth. I’m holding the flashlight behind me and tell them. Hey, I was on a forum and blah, blah, blah. The name of this flashlight is “Giggles”. I pull it from behind my back and let me tell you the name is worthy of the looks I got. They both jumped out of bed to see it shine across the “lake”. But it was a joke. So I told them I was going on a drive to see if I could find a place to shine it.

That part was hard. I was headed to a sod farm but didn’t make it. I found a dark area with a tower and stopped to see what that would look like. I played with the light a few minutes, took a few really lame photos and then the light died. I’m not surprised. I was using whatever juice they showed up with.

Right now they’re on my Nitecore charger which only has 2 bays. So it’s likely going to be tomorrow for me to setup a tripod and try to take some proper photos for everyone. One thing that’s obvious is that I’ll need a fast shutter and slow aperture.

You cannot hold this thing for long away from the body. It’s definitely heavy. I’ll try to figure out photos and upload what I can to help people who are still waiting.

Only .25 miles for my first test.

135 yards from my porch

I am waiting to send out anymore PM’s until all the existing orders are (almost) complete. So not to worry, there will not be any cutting in line.

Now the next set of PM’s could be a first come, first served basis if we should happen to sell all 1500 but we will cross that bridge when we get to it.

There are only a few hours left till the GB closes. Say 3 hours so it ends at midnight central standard time.

Should not it be 20%? Yours is like below 10% boost to Turbo.

This is normal due to the laws of diminishing returns as power increases. Remember we are already twice the rated power at 2A.

Current boost from 2A to 2.5A right? So it is 25% boost of current, no?
Ya, i understand the curve of efficiency. I thought GT percentage of output is calibrated to match real lumen output in design phase. But i didn’t follow GT development closely.

As soon as the order was placed you should have gotten an email or text from Paypal. Not everyone did, but when they logged into their paypal account, the transaction was there.

Most people also got an email from Neal to confirm their phone number. Some didnt, but it’s no big deal.

So check your PayPal account to make sure the transaction is there. If so, you are good to go.

I got mine today, I have no use for a light like this, not in the least disappointed that I bought it though.

Here’s a picture with my oldest Lumintop light for scale.

northbeard…. Clear things up.

Did you get an “email saying to pay” ‘OR’ a PM (Personal Message) here on BLF saying to pay??

There is a big difference. Which did you get asking for payment??
.
Edit….. It appears all is well northbeard. . Smile
