Notice that I said OEM HID headlights, all your examples are LED and Laser headlights. Very different technologies.

BTW, Does HID tints match up the same to LED tints, like is 5000K the same color temp to the human eyes? I’m sure that both have variances due to manufacturers!

I can remember the earlier discussion about the colortemp of the led for the GT. Neutral/warmer white is better for seeing depth and has preference by carmakers, fire departments and other specialists. So the choice for this color led is very defendable, I am content with it.

Spartan16 has an emotional message, he hates yellow light. He based his order for the GT on a YouTube video of a pre production sample. So I understand his disappointment when he discovered the change to 4000k. That he missed all the posts about this on the BLF GT thread is sad for him, but that is the reason he is surprised and disappointed at this moment. If you participate in a group buy of a totally new flashlight, created by the community, you are part of the community and you have the responsibility to stay on track and follow this process. By the video on YouTube lots of non members of BLF have been attracted to the GT. And all want a piece of the cake. Great, but don’t complain as if this is a professional company that has to mail everyone that the product has changed. Maybe it’s a suggestion for the next time. But if you can participate in such a great group buy for less than half of the normal price, stay happy and cool, even though the lighttemp isn’t as cool as you preferred.

Is there a list maintained of payments received?

Also I’m planning to order protected batteries, since I think they are modded proteced batteries, will they fit Giggiles (Since these might be a bit bigger):

New subject to hopefully move past all this bickering.

A few weeks ago I was contacted by a NASA sub-contractor about wanting a GT for research and testing.

They were not very forthcoming about the details but it seems that they are wanting to test it out for use on Drones that are used for mapping the earth / disaster areas.

So in a few weeks when they get their light, you can officially say that the GT is being used in research for NASA! How cool is that!

They have had a bunch of questions about different options for the light as well.

Please read the first post

I will be updating the first post later today hopefully with the latest info.

The plan is to make the OP for this thread basically like a pre-purchase page on a store with a single updated list of those in the GB included.

Then use the GT support thread for post-purchase items.

Thank you, I indeed went through the first post but my name wasn’t present on any list.

Props to you and the team. Can I still add batteries to my order? (Already paid for Giggles.)

You can try contacting Neal about the batteries, if the light has not shipped it is possible. If it has shipped already they have a separate purchase page for the cells alone, it just costs a little more.

Within four years, Osram Sylvania predicts that LED headlamps will be installed in 20 percent of all new cars. The Toyota Corolla and Ford Explorer come with standard LED low-beams, and as fuel-efficiency regulations tighten, LED headlights will play a key role in reducing energy consumption. Indeed, they each draw between 15 and 18 watts of power, versus 55 to 65 watts from a halogen and 42 watts from an HID. Their response from off to full strength—known as “rise time”—is just one millisecond. An incandescent bulb is 250 times slower, which makes LEDs especially advantageous for brake lights. There’s no question that LED headlights are brighter (3000 lumens at low beam versus 800 lumens for halogen, although this varies depending on the optical system used) and output light at a color temperature closer to daylight (5500 Kelvin versus 4500 for HID and 2500–3000 for halogen).

I really don’t care about the stock tint, will use it for a while and if I don’t like it, I will switch it for something I like more…

I do have a question about the led bin intensity.

The stock is a XHP35 HI in D4 bin, which yields about 2500+ lumen on turbo.

If I were to change it for an XHP35 HI E4 bin, in theory how much lumen would I get on turbo?

If I were to change it for an XHP35 HD E7 bin, in theory how much lumen would I get on turbo? I know this one is an HD not a HI emitter, I wonder if the increase brightness will compensate the increase in hot spot size…

I thank in advance for your input, it is greatly appreciated! Smile

I measured 2049 lumens on the 4000K emitter in my light box, 2225 lumens on the cool white version I swapped in.

My light, measured at the emitter with a loop in the negative lead contact and a Uni-T clamp meter, made 2.43A in Turbo and 1.93A in High. Changing my cells from the LG M25 to Sony VTC5A didn’t alter the output significantly.

I have never heard of an E7 bin, they usually stop at 4 and then go up to the next letter with the xhp35.

Each bin is worth about 7% output change (they also have a 7% tolerance range, so keep that in mind).

So going to an E4 bin would be worth about a 14% increase over the stock LED. Although I have not seen any E4 bin XHP35 HI’s except for a few that cutter got.

The HD would still net you lower CD even with higher output. Although I have heard that dedoming an HD LED can give you better lumens and throw over a HI LED, if you are willing to put up with the tint shift (I am not).

Cutter supposedly has an E7 bin HD right now on their website, that is why I am asking…

That is to be expected due to the meter bias towards the cool white spectrum.

I generally see around a 10-15% meter bias between CW and NW depending on the exact tints.

Got a link, I am pretty sure that is the tint bin. E7 is around 3000k.

I think you are right, I am reading it wrong

http://www.cutter.com.au/proddetail.php?prod=cut2676

I do see a 3C tint (5000k) E2 flux XHP35 Hi here, maybe a group buy?

Yeah, that is an E7 tint and C4 flux, so around 3000k. I got the 90 CRI version of that LED actually and tested it awhile back.

I also have that 3C E2 LED. In fact it might be what is in the Giggles prototype actually come to think of it. Personally I prefer the stock LED better but I will wait till I get the prototype back to do a direct comparison (well, VOB will do it first I am sure).

You would get about a 7% increase in output.

There is only a partial list of paid orders. We probably will not get a new full list as it causes more problems for Neal than fixes things.

The max battery length I measured was 70mm.

The first link with the pink batteries say they are 71mm, so they won’t fit.

The second link with the green batteries say 69.5mm, so they should fit. Did you see the couple of sketchy reviews on them? A few folks say they only measured 1800 to 2200 mah. Most say they are about 3100 to 3200 mah. I don’t know if they are legit. Maybe?

As long as your payment went through on paypal then you are covered.

You can still add the 35E batteries, but keep in mind they are not protected. Depending on when your order ships and when Neal sees you battery purchase, the cells might be included with the light, but there is no guarantee. The light might ship first, then the batteries. Just so you know.

Part of being a responsible driver is not blinding oncoming traffic. If your headlights are not adjusted properly, get them fixed.

Even with halogen bulbs, there are idiots driving around with their high beams on. Or just misaligned housings that blind everyone. There is always going to be those situations. I guess if enough people flash their high beams at these idiots they will eventually get the message. Or they will get pulled over and ticketed.

The people that drive down the highway with their 30” light bars on, I wish the cops would pull them over and cut the wires then give them a big fine.

Just my opinion.

is this a hard thing to do as I prefer the cooler blue look

Not too hard. There is videos about reflowing emitters floating around, just do your research before attempting.

Eventually there will be LED boards available in the right size to be a direct drop in I am sure. When/if that happens, its just a matter of desoldering two wires, swap the board out, and resolder the two wires

With 1.5+Mcd? Vinh might be the first to come out this light.

I assumed he meant an xhp50.2. More lumen, less throw.

That is right, I know if I want to go up in lumens I will loose lux. Right now I am thinking an xhp70.2, but want to wait to see what other emitters are put in this and what kind of results they get
