Hi everyone, I just received mine from FedEx (order placed said DHL). This thing is HUGE and carrying it is more like carrying a dumbbell Smile

Thank you all for contributing to it. This is the largest flashlight (heaviest) I ever own, love it very much.

Note: Mine come with bigger than LED black gasket, however it is well centered. There are some uncoated area (10mm square), four marks, at the edge of the glass. And when max out the light, there is an off-center-oval-shape-corona slightly brighter than the adjacent observed on the beam (it is not able to be captured by camera). Another thing is the BLF GT box has been taped all over the place with FedEx stickers and when being removed, the box’s wording and “skin” are all gone Crying . What a waste, they should wrap with protective layer before sending to FedEx….. To me all these are still acceptable, but just want to highlight that compared with my flawless TN42, Lumintop needs to keep up a bit more Wink

Yay, mine has arrived in UK today. No batteries ordered, DHL but came TNT, no tax to pay.

I was called by customs yesterday just to ask if personal or business item, I declared personal and no issues. Was opened and resealed.

I’m away so can’t try it out until the weekend Sad

Thank you team GT Thumbs Up

Thanks. It’s hard to appreciate how bright it is considering the other light is a 1.5km capable light and a year ago it was a smidge away from being the most throwy light out there (compared to the tn42).

When you compare them and remember much wow factor the other light had last year it really does put it into perspective.

Thanks for the pics Chrisc, the crazy thing is the GT modded with a XHP70.2 should still throw further than the BK FA09S according to TA experiments.

This light to me serves a purpose. It’s too big to lug around normally and I’m not sure I even have a use for it but I won’t be modding it unless it’s for more throw

Great pictures chris, and one nice detail ! If you zoom in and look the roof of that house, with GT you can clearly see a green moos on the edges, with Niwalker can’t see a thing Cool

I have a feeling that the Q16 will be heavy too. Speaking of which, any plans to open a thread for that project soon?

Also the trees in the background. They aren’t visible with the niwalker through the moisture in the air.

The weather really wasn’t suitable for doing this tonight but considering it wasn’t raining and just a bit of drizzle it seemed like a good time to try it.

I really need to find my remote shutter cable for my camera as it’d have made this a lot easier.

My problem is I live in a city with a lot of light pollution. The low cloud tonight and the orange sky really didn’t help that much.

I have to say that the tint does detract from the wow factor of the light but in the conditions tonight the warmer tint cut through the moisture so much better. There was some other tests that I did and the niwalker just lit up the air before hitting a target when the GT cut through.

I’ll try and get a photo of me lighting up a building at ~800m but with the moisture the niwalker doesn’t appear to touch it. I know it does because on summer nights I’ve seen it light it up.

I’ll need some help from the wife when I take those shots and it’s already 11pm so they can wait another night at least

GoshDogIt posted about adding a length of bicycle inner tube over the battery tube. I mentioned maybe a neoprene sleeve would be a better cold barrier.

I found protective sleeves (for motorcycle forks) that fit perfectly in circumference, so I ordered two sets. The material is a little bit thinner than the OP/Tech hoods.

One fork tube cover will do two battery tubes, so it needs to be cut in half.

Before cutting, the stitching needs to have a "stay stitch" sewn in on each side of the cut where you plan to cut it. To secure the stitching so it doesn't unravel. Here are the neoprene covers for anyone interested.

I got this Woven Cloth Shrink Tube coming in https://www.amazon.com/H2F2-36BK-Woven-Fabric-Heatshrink-Tubing/dp/B00U7...

I have tried the neoprene shrink tubing on other lights, I thought I’d give this a try?

I am number 1189 in the group buy.

From post #1.

The next group (3rd batch) to purchase lights (#1050 and up on the list or who signed up after 10/23/17) will get their emails late January to early Feb in order to let Neal get caught up with current orders. Since Chinese New Year is quickly approaching, Texas_Ace may wait unto late February. No final decision has been made yet.

The neoprene was cheap. Worth a try.

I may like the woven stuff you found better. The diameter of it will be close. Let us know how that stuff works out.

Thank you all for your kind suggestions. I appreciate the information. I will continue to wait patiently and check back later this month and throughout February.

When I receive the email / pm, how long do I have to take advantage of the price? Do I have to buy within a very short time limit of my receiving the email? (Basically, if I don’t see the email until 2 weeks late because I forgot about it, will I miss out, or is the coupon good for a month or longer?)

There should not be much of a time limit. Ordering sooner gives you a better chance of getting it sooner, but that’s no guarantee.

The main problem is lack of information.

I guess this is not important for lumnitop, Neal

gregor, I understand your frustration about this. Obviously refund is not what you want. You just want confirmation from Neal.
I think Neal should respond to you if he can. You should try PM him again, of course i am not suggesting to spam him everyday.

cool i'll see you when you get there

Since I couldn’t convince anyone else to do it, I ordered the filmcity lens handle. Here it is suspended from the balance point on my pegboard.

I like it srwaite! I thought it’d work perfectly and it looks like it does… I would’ve been all over it but the funds department cancelled my little party…

Does it “handle” as well as it looks like it should?

Crossing the beams does no harm (unless it’s taking a while for the Aliens to respond)

Even from 1.31 miles away, don’t look into the business end! Smile

One of my friends (the one on the far side of the lake) had a meter set up, an GT with XHP-35 HD E4 5700K emitter showed 0.2 lux at 1.31 miles, one with an XHP-35 HI D4 5700K showed the same 0.3 lux as my sliced HD E4 5700K variant. So the two with the tighter beams did 1.323Mcd across the lake on a 90% humidity night, extrapolated to 1.429 miles throw. This was determined by reverse engineering the formula to get .3 lux at 1.31 miles.

3 GT’s together put 0.5 lux on the far beach. Pretty neat out at the lake seeing opposite shore lines and such. The one friend with the meter said when we shined the GT’s over his head he could clearly see the beam in the night air, that column of blue-white light, so the beam is still visible at over 2100 meters. Way cool stuff!

Dale,

In your first photo, are there 3 or 4 beams being thrown; It looks as if there are 2-3 beams on your side of the lake? Maybe just a glare but from the right side of the photo it looks as if 1 beam is crossing over yours and possibly another is shining down yonder..

The bottom photo..WOW! From that distance it’s amazing how bright that looks!

I like it. It feels great in the hand and the balance is perfect. The only real problem is that with only 1 screw to hold it in position, a rapid twist of the hand will cause it to rotate. I can’t get enough tension on the tripod screw to prevent it, although you really have to twist it pretty hard to make it move. I’m considering machining 1/4” off the front of the handle base so it can butt flat up against the fins of the GT and maybe prevent that. I’m not sure if its necessary yet.
