Question about a Streamlight Protac 2L

A friend of mine at work is tired of buying CR123 batteries for his Streamlight. I can order him some lithium ion’s for it but they are 3.7 (actually a bit higher after charging) and it uses 2 of them. I kknow Streamlight has a habit of using circuts to keep from using different batteries.
What he said he would prefer is a single cell instead of 2 cr123’s. Well that will decrease voltage just a bit.

Honestly I’m not familiar with the light as most Streamlights are way over priced.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks very much.

A Protac 2L doesn’t use CR123s, it uses AAs. A Protac HL takes CR123s. I had a Protac HL but gave it away because I was tire of buying CR123s too. An 18650 will not fit…too wide…tube would have to be bored, I’m not sure about the driver setup…as far as if it will be worth it to try to mod. Any of the lights “we” buy will destroy a Streamlight.

My mistake on the model. I’ve tried even giving him a light bit he is attached to the thing. I wonder if a 16500 would work. Honestly I have no clue. But he is a good friend so I will continie to try. If it can handle 2 3.7v it’s simple. Just not sure.

Not a high spec battery but looks as it would work in most 2 x cr123 lights.

He could get this but he would need to be sure that the batteries only charge to 3v and not 3.2. I’ve heard of people’s Streamlights being ok with 6.4 volts and I’ve also heard of them dying. If he charges each one to just 3v then that’ll give him 6v total and he’ll be fine.

I run 2 16340 batteries in my hl and have been for 4 years without any problems.

Huh… just goggled this for another thread.
