Is this too good to be true? S2+ for $8.99

UPDATE 11/10: price went up!!!

I don’t want to promote any specific vendors, or start any speculations, so please forgive if I offend anyone.

I read a lot about the past issues with fake S2+ at GB, and this morning I check and see GB is selling a particular model for* $8.99*. sounds like a really good price but too good to be true

The model is following:

Convoy S2+ Cree XML U2 - 1B 7135 x 6 8 - Mode 940lm Highlight LED White Flashlight (1 x 18650) - GRAY LL0203202
-it shows a green rubber tailcap
-the only option you could choose is the warehouse in China or US-LA

*Promo ends in:

Anyone has comments if this is an authentic Convoy flashlight or they are trying to offload their cr…p

I have up to date not received branded but fake flashlights from GB. That model is between 15 and 20 dollar without discount and I have seen even higher discounts before on Gearbest that were genuine. So my bet is that it is a legit good deal.

Thanks djozz,
so you are saying you purchased and received only genuine Convoy’s from GB right?

What deals have you seen, you can PM me if you feel it would be more appropriate.

I put up the picture to save people time looking it up but let me know if this offends anyone.

It is perfectly ok posting such pictures here as long as you are not a commercial seller trying to sneak in a free ad, which you obviously are not.

Welcome to BLF!

Note that this is the 7135 x 6 so the luminous flux of 940 lm does not seem legit.
The t6 3b bin on 7135 x 8 is rated @ 996 lm.

Give it a try, most likely it is genuine convoy, and It is easy to tell otherwise anyways. I have purchased several S2+ from gearbest at unbelievably prices and they turned out to be real convoy quality, including the UV version for $15 which is ridiculously cheap because the emitter itself costs more than that.

I agree with the others, I’ve never gotten anything fake from Gearbest, though a few people have.

Even if it were to be “fake”, chances are that it’s a good enough product to be worth the price you paid.

You are right it should have said 3B and not 1B.

also the seller lists ” Color Temperature: 6500-7000K which should be 1A

I added some specs courtesy of Phlogiston from CP Forum

Welcome to BLF and well all Will34 writes also goes for me. (Except I paid $16 for the Nichia UV S2+ )

they need to bring back that UV deal… I want to be grossed out on my next vacation

@caramba
I bought several Convoy items at GB and they all seem genuine.

I wish I had bought that S2+/Nichia UV light when I saw it for 15.99 $ before points. somehow forgot to purchase it and have never seen it that low again. 11.19 after points is too good to pass.

The S2+ 7135*6 was often availiable for 11$

So 9$ is still legit for a Original Convoy light

The UV is on sale for $22.17 right now…

Note that it says XML (note the lack of 2). All the convoy s2+ that you can buy from Simon have the newer XML-2, so it must be (very) old stock or a custom version with the older led.

Edit: According to the Cree PCT the XML U2 should do about 90 lumens less than the XML2 at 2.1A (769 vs 860 at 25ºC), or about the same as a XML2 T5. If you lack a proper flashlight or need another for cheap it would be a good purchase but if you want cool white because of higher lumens don’t buy it.

Thanks, this is very useful info. I got too many cheap ones, I guess I will wait for Simon to offer a deal on the newer model with XML-2.

I assume the 6500-7000K XML2 U2-1A tint is most usable for long distance, although I understand this is not a thrower, but I like the small pocket sized form.

It’s a great price, but unless you spring for the faster shipping at extra cost (which I always end up doing) , you could be waiting until near January of the year 2017 for it to arrive.
Priority is $2.63, registered is $1.08 but not as fast in practice as the priority.
They say free shipping is unregistered free airmail at 15-35 business days

So tack on the $2.63 you are at $11.62 and still is under powered at 2.1 amps.
Still a good deal I guess but for a few bucks more I can get the tint I want, custom colors and cool steel tailcap and more power at FastTech.
Gonna have to pass.

Great for a host, I’ll leave it at that.
Buy one, don’t pay for the express ship and forget about it and hopefully it will be a nice surprise in the future.

Pardon my ignorance but what can you do with a powerful UV light?

Can you disinfect your drinking water?

You can see the unseen. :sunglasses:

According to info in CPF the 9$ S2+ has an error in the description
Simon sells only XML2 now, no old stock

It is equipped with XM-L2 Emitter

You can order 10 7135 chips for 1.4$ if you need more power

Even 2.1A gets very very hot if left alone

What you can do with UV light see below
Last 2 pictures show the recently equipped ZWB2 filter, the filter eliminates 99.8% of the visible light the Emitter does so the contrast is ever better

Thats cheaper then the hosts sell for, not a bad deal at all if you can stand the shipping time.

I got some colored S2+ from fasttech a few weeks back for less then $10. I plan to give them as Christmas gifts (after modding to match each person naturally).
