Wud-Up

Howdy, just bought some stuff to make SST-90 build for fun. I’m going to cram it inside a SK98 and stack extra 7135 chips, and see what happens.
Should be fun when the stuff gets here; I made an account to hopefully show some pictures if it works because I like this website.

Hey Buddy Welcome to the club! Sounds like a great project look forward to the pics!

How about put a link in your sig line that links to a website that links to another and they link back and forth forever. That’s what people really like to click on…

Oh, you already did that……

Have a pleasant time at this friendly forum, kludge!

Heeeeey hoooooo, welcooooome !

You must be fun at parties.

Well I guess I can’t make everyone laugh, but hopefully the new signature is more tame than someone saying heeeey hooooo.
My goal here is to follow the rules, and enjoy rule #9 within reason.

Welcome to BLF
Sounds like a very interesting project!

WELCOME !

It is not a bad one, I'll say rather that is very instructive for future projects !... I've done myself something like that not long ago, even if SST-90 is considered obsolete...Just remember that you are going to face BIG currents and a LOT of heat ,so chose wisely the host and the driver.

As for myself , I used as host a Skilhunt K30 (the driver had a bug in soft , the warranty was expired , and no driver replacement from Skilhunt !!!). This flashlight has a massive head, with deep fins and , therefore , an excellent heat dissipation .

For the driver I had one from an old Skyray 3X xml-t6 , the one with no inductors , but 3 FETs , one for each led , in fact is a DD driver , modified by me to give aprox. 3.1 A , each channel. All 3 of them connected in parallel to the SST-90. Tested on the bench and barely warm after 15 minutes ! So , +9 Amps to the led ,battery holder modified from 3S to 3P, good non protected 3400mAh , and now is a +2500 lm (from 1600 stated by manufacturer ?...). Tested and retested , the temperature of the head never over 45 degrees Celsius , after 3 consecutive long runs up to the depletion of the batteries (about 3 hours...). I consider this "a budget" , made with what I had around , even if the body was an expensive ex-flashlight !!! Expensive but , non functional !!!

I do like the tint of SST-90 ,is an oldie but goldie...

GOOD LUCK with this one !

Google-ing for SK 98 I saw the host that you are intend to use !!! NO way man , NO way ! I don't want to discourage you but in 10 sec , or so you'll blow the led or ,if you'll try at low current (let's say 3 Amps ) , you'll be disappointed by the results !!! Do not forget that SST-90 is less effective than XML at low currents...

But , if it is just for fun , go for it !!!

Sup

Well I did it here: Cramming an SST-90 into an SK98 (asepheric) for fun.

It was fun… Looks cool.
