How much do you consume electricity?

No, not you, your stuff, heating and other appliances :D

I was going to ask about how big is your current electricity bill but realized, that we all are paying maybe hugely different price for KWh...

So, how many KWh per year. You may also tell your current price if you remember it.

Tell also, if you heat or cool with it since it is a big slice of the pie.

If you use gas or other stuff, make a note :)

Just checked my price, it is somewhere around 0,13€/KWh or 0,18$/KWh.

Annual consumption is roughly 10´000KWh.

I heat primarily with electricity, hot water also done by electricity, small pairhouse 72m2.

I try to heat with wood as much as I can to save some bucks.

My parents house is about 300m2 (ground and first floor)

About 4000-4,500kwh of electricity from which 3,500-4000kwh is supplied by solar panels. (0,2€/20,25$ per kwh so we pay about 500-1000kwh), and we are granted 450€/600$/1000kwh by the government for our solar produced electricity

500-1000kg of wood in the chimney (free as we get it from contractors my dad knows)

Around 1000-1500l of petrol for central heating (1€/1,4$ per liter)

Interesting topic

My house is around 200m2 and I'm slightly over 10 000 kWh/year, using a geothermal heat pump for hot water and heating.
Price is 0,11€ or 0,16 USD per kWh.

About 12p per kWh or about $0.195. Around 400kWh per month just now - my heating isn't working so am using electricity instead off gas at about a sixth of the price. Well under 5000kWh per year. My basic instantaneous power consumption for most of the time is around 400W - mostly computing kit - the house base load is around 250W most of which is the fridge and freezer. Hubs, routers, switches and networking gear in general are most of the rest.

I've already used 500kWh this month - much of which is the dryer. I just wear a lot of clothes just now.

About 5000 kwh per year. A little more last year because it was damn hot. I have a gas furnace for heat and a gas water heater. I use about 300 kwh per month when the AC isn't running. That's for a 1-story 3BR house with one person. Price is about 13 cents per kwh.

Around 10000kwh/year for 1 person. That doesn't include heat, hot water or stove/oven which are all gas. Cost for supply+delivery as around 13cents/kwh. Last year I spent around $4500 USD on utility bills(gas+electricity). My power company sends me a notice every month that I am consuming too much energy(40% more than my neighbors. Most of my neighbors are college students whose total electrical needs consist of a cell phone charger, laptop and microwave - not a fair comparison IMO by the power company). I have alot of electronic equipment.

growing marihuana does require a lot of energy... :d

LOL, thats what the cops were saying last time they were here. Funny thing is, I don't use any drugs at all.

deal but don't do ;)

LOL, I knew that was coming. That is a rule, eh, "Don't get high from your supply". Kind of a little jingle rhyme for drug dealers. I don't have any supply though. But we are way OT. I think its rather Orwellian that power companies are sending out notices for high consumption - and now with smart meters they might just start shutting down the high users. Err, not that I'm high or anything...that is to say, excessive consumption...hmmm..I mean.. you know what I mean.

Man, you guys make my electric use seem huge. Of course, my house is all electric including heat and hot water. Family of four in a 3br house. From about April through October I use anywhere from 700 to 1000 kwh/month depending on how much the ac is needed for the heat. During, the cold winter months, though, the usage could go as high as 2300kwh/month depending on how cold it is. Actually, with how high gas heat has been, I've been running cheaper than a lot of other people I know for those winter months.

BTW:

Recently they updatet electricity meter reading system in here.

They read them every month OnLine and then bill. Before it was steady billing throughout a year due estimate.

Now on winter month I can get a Jackpot...

Just asking: do you live in an old or a newish house? And how cold are the winters. 2300KWh/month means you are missing some great budget lights every month ;)

Disclaimer: More off-off-topic chatter. Also, although I researched growing marijuana years ago, I never followed through on it.

If you live in the right climate, Mary Jane grows outdoors super-cheaply. But doing so in California is completely illegal. If you have a prescription for medicinal cannabis, you can legally grow a small number of plants indoors. If you use High-Pressure Sodium or Metal Halide grow lights, your electric bill will be super-high. But you can also use fluorescent (or compact fluorescent) lights and still get reasonably good marijuana, and your electric bill will be way lower. So there you go, tips on how to grow weed legally and cheaply (in California).

House is 10 years old so its pretty well insulated. I'm in a colder climate in Indiana, but not ridiculously cold. Officially, the average high temperature in January is about 0 deg centigrade, so your night time temperatures during that time run about 10 below on average. Obviously, thats the average for a month so we do get cold spells that are a lot colder than that. I know a lot of people running $300 dollar a month gas bills when it gets cold so my $230 total electric bill on those bad months doesn't seem that bad since those gas people still end up having to pay about $50 or more for the electricity.

Our house uses a heat pump which when the temperatures are running 0 to 15 centigrade, really are pretty efficient. However, their efficiency starts dropping pretty bad when the temperature gets below 0. They don't use heat pumps at all if you move more north than I am because they lose any efficiency advantage over traditional furnaces.

With college students next door ..I'd be worried about them taping into your power and growing weed.

maybe the power company is telling you something ...

SirJohn: well, your colder climate puts things better in perspective.
in here, they generally use heat pumps (air to air) through winter. Usually they lose efficiency when temp drops but I believe new ones have the limit way down to -20C or -25C.
Naturally, with 0 temp you get much more with less power…

Around 4500 kWh/year price is around 0,13 euro /kWh using gas for heating

I can only consume what I can produce. I am off grid and have about 32 square metres of panels capable of producing 5.5kW. My inverters can supply a steady output of 12kW and peak at over 20kW.

How do you store power?
