Is my Xtar VC4 faulty??? Photo attached

I thought this charger was supposed to charge outside bays at 1A and inside ones at 0.5A???
This was supposed to be an upgrade to my D4 because of faster charging, but if the middle reading is correct, it’s charging at 0.4A per bay……grrrrrrrrrrr………

Any ideas???

It’s hard to read how many volts are the batteries at? Normal cc/cv chargers will slowly lower the current when the charge cycle is comming to an end.

4.1V across the board, even if it starts at 3.5V it’s still the same charging rate

I’ll blast it on turbo for a bit to lower the voltage of the batteries and take another photo, I’ll also take a photo of the power supply stats.

Shoot Xtar a message on here they have an active rep? What is your adapter rating that you use with the charger?

4 batteries, max 0.5A.
Charge at 1A outside bays if only charge 2 batteries.
I am wrong?

It has a total charger current of 2A available, it can either be used as 2x1A for the outside bays or 4x0.5A for all bays.
If the usb voltage is a bit low it will reduce current.

Power Supply:

I’ve never got 500 per bay with 4 or 1A if charging 2 32650’s in both outside bays

Well that is solved USB 2 can only output 2.4 amps @ 5 volts so you wouldn’t have enough power to charge all cells at 1amp. You would need a mains connection.

Edit. That is weird because it should have enough power to supply 2 cells at 1amp but only just.

No no, it should charge 4 bays at 0.5A just fine using that power supply

Or 2 ouside bays at 1A per bay

It’s giving 2.4A remember?

Yea but line loses plus you need to run the screen every little loss adds up when you have a small margin. So it cuts it close.

Have you tried using a different power supply?

The cable that Xtar supply loses power and that isn’t calculated?

I unfortunately don’t have another power supply capable of that kind of voltage

I am sure its fine. Its just a possibility. But there is no way Xtar would sell a charger that isn’t capable of providing the charging capabilities they stated. Any ways the Input parameters are 5v @ 2.1 amps. So you have enough power going in.

I’ll continue testing…main reason for buying was the 1A outside bays for my dive video light 32650’s

Hmmm HKJ has a review give it a read. Same issue as you.

So now it’s reading a higher voltage AND higher charge rate than early, EVERYTHING EXACTLY THE SAME

just put a DMM or clampmeter in between and measure the true current

there is no way to say that the display shows you an odd current if you dont check what the real output is

Don’t own one unfortunately…forehead slap

I’d expect Xtar stuff to be accurate though……
